Parenting after 35

Boobie Squishing

My OB, who is a sweetie (and I switched to her because she delivered Aaron, my old one was nice too but I prefer Dr. S) was like "well you need to have annual mammograms now that you're over 40,"

*sigh*

I know I'll be 41 this year.  Just stop reminding me, OK?

And I just made my appointment to get squished on March 8th. Finding a GOOD state of the art facility that is IN-NETWORK was not easy. So I'll be traveling about 20 miles or so ... not too terrible, really, but it's my 3rd facility for my 3rd mammo. No consistency for me. *sigh*  Now I just need to get all my old films.

Re: Boobie Squishing

  • I see that in my future in May.  Not really looking forward to it.  I have not had one yet so it will be all exciting and new for me.

  • The time has come for me to get one too and expect the OB to send me for one in May also.

  • I've had a couple already, one at 35 because my doctor found a suspicious lump during a regular physical that turned out to be nothing, and then because my mother developed breast cancer a few years ago my GYN sent me for another baseline at 38.  If I weren't breastfeeding I would have already had another.  For those of you who haven't had one yet - don't expect much, it is uncomfortable to say the least.  I can't figure out why medical science can do so much but can't come up with an easier and less unpleasant way to take a picture of our boobs!

  • Scooby, I've also had several. My first one also at 35 because of a lump that ended up being benign.  I had my "baseline" when I was 37 and then my last one was December 2009 when Aaron was 4 months old. I'm OK with them, I just hate that I'm going from facility to facility because of my insurance switching.

  • Blech! I'm sorry, Robyn.
  • Shame on me.  Going for my first one ever on Monday.  I'm 43.  Every time I had one scheduled, I'd 1) gotten pregnant   2) Miscarried  3) gotten pregnant.

Maybe I'll get knocked up before Monday???? :)

  • Oh, man, Robyn, I am so far behind on those.  I still haven't had one.  First I was pregnant with Margaux, then breastfeeding, then when I stopped we got pregnant again before the 6 month window was up...  Now it'll be what, another two years before I can have one?

Not that I want one, boobie-squishing sounds yucky, but I know I really should.  Good luck with this new facility!  :)

  • Even though it's barbaric, it's a good thing you are getting it done.

IMO - I think if men had to get their jimmies jammed in a machine like that every year, they'd have one that was all ultrasoundy and pre-warmed....
