I've finally started to use CD's with my LO. Yesterday was our first full day in them and we had no blow-outs or leaks....yay!
I'm using the pre-folds from Green Mountain Diapers, yellow edge in a size small Thirsties or Bummis. I fold the prefold in thirds and lay it in the diaper. Boy is it bulky!! There is a little extra length so I have to fold it back a little which creates a serious amount of bulk and the diaper hardly wants to close. Is this how pre-folds are supposed to work or am I doing something wrong?
Re: Question about pre-folds - really bulky?
Darn! I didn't think to buy infant size, do you think it would be worth is to buy a dozen? She's almost 2 months old and about 10 lbs.
So you wrap the prefold around her and pin? I tried that once yesterday and it barely fit around her! She's not a big girl, I might have been doing it wrong
i don't pin, i use a snappi. either with the angel wing or jelly roll (side wall) fold:

Infant size (green edge) is the same length as yellow edge, but narrower. It sounds like your main problem is the length, not the width, so I'd stick with what you have. They will be a little bulky for now, but she'll grow into them quickly.
DS is one year old and has been in infant size since birth, so obviously, they are a lot trimmer on him now than they were when he was a newborn. In fact, they are probably his trimmest diaper. Here's a picture from just a few weeks ago:
