We have been TTC #2 for two cycles now. I'm trying to not obsess, so I haven't been charting (although temping doesn't work for me, so I use OPKs to chart). I'm certain that I O'd on CD16 which is actually early for me - when we TTC last time I would O sometime around CD19-22. So I was thrilled about the early O ... but AF just arrived today, which is 11DPO, which means my LP was only 10 days. I'm seeing my OB on Thursday for my annual, and I'll ask about it - but just wondering, if you have a short LP, how many cycles did they want you to track before they did something about it?
Re: Anyone else have short LPs?
10 is on the short side of normal. GL.
ETA: I'd only raise the flag on a short LP if you actually KNOW when you O, not just as a guess. Can we see your chart? How do you know, besides just "knowing" you O'ed on CD16?
I didn't chart this month, I just sort of kept track in my head. I know that I O'd on CD16 because I had massive O pain and EWCM. I probably won't do any charting next cycle, and we'll skip the following one to avoid December - so in May we'll probably get more serious about it. I'm really just kind of trying to see what my body is doing since the IUD came out.
Nope. You cant KNOW for a fact when you O unless you chart. I actually get "massive O pains" too, but I get them the day before I actually ovulate. The ONLY way to know is to chart and see. You are obviously close to O with a + OPK and O pains so for sex purposes Im sure youre good. However if youre concerned enough about a short LP to talk to a doctor about it you need to be more accurate on when you Oed. There is a huge difference between a 9 day LP and a 10 day LP. Also the only thing Id even talk to my doctor about at first with a short LP problem would be taking B6. It's natural and all but remedied all of my TTC bodily issues including my short LP.
If you want to know what your body is doing since your IUD came out then you need to chart. I chart and that doesnt stress me out or make me obsess. If anything it clams me down because I DO know for a fact whats going on with my body. Id suggest to chart this month since you are TTA if youre worried charting will stress you out. That way you can chart in a month that means you arent reading anything in to it because you arent trying. It sounds to me like you are more stressed out by NOT knowing than you would be by charting. JMO.
Also I think a lot of people dont chart at first because they find it intimidating, but once you get started and learn, its quite easy.
This. I have had a 9 and an 8. I will see what the next two cycles bring me then I'll f/up with my OBGYN for tests. Going to buy B6 soon, even though my OBGYN said that it won't help
Wow. Some doctors... I just have to say, take a look at my chart this month compared to last month and the month before that I had an 8 day LP with temps barely above CL. I am going on an 11 day LP from an 8 day LP in 3 cycles. Granted it DOES take a while to become affective and may not work for everyone but it has made a WORLD of difference for my body. I went from short LP, low prog, low 2ww temps and no EWCM at all to moderate LP, normal prog, HIGH 2ww temps and EWCM for the first time in a year! All because of b6 and b12.
My doc recommend clomid and progesterone sups if my cycles didnt start to even out on the b6. Man am I glad I gave it a shot instead of running to the prescription meds. I cant stand doctors that just assume only prescription drugs are the answer... Irritates the crap out of me.
Thank you for the advice - I do know how to chart (I did it both times we TTC'd in the past) and it does make me obsess. Temping does not work for me because I can never temp at the exact same time every day - I always end up waking up early and never at the same time.

When TTC #1 my LPs were around 10-11 days. My OB said to let her know when I got a BFP and she'd put me on progesterone.
I know B6 works for many women, but it didn't help me and I actually ended up having one of my shortest LPs.
I agree with the other ladies that recommended charting (with temps). Even with a positive OPK you might not O until a day or two later.
ETA: My chart is almost half open circles from not being able to temp at the same time everyday. I can still see that I O'ed. I think charting is worth it. But that's just me.

1500mcg its a high dosage and you probably dont need that much but I didnt realize that when I bought this bottle (stupid) but b12 isnt like b6. It doesnt cause any damage and works similarly to vit C in that if you take to much you simply just pee out the excess. HTH
Well like I said, if you DO obsess with temping but have concerns about your LP Id temp in a month your TTA like the one coming up. That way you have nothing TO obsess about. As far as waking times, try setting your alarm for way earlier than you normally wake up. Some women temp at 4 30 am and then go back to sleep everyday because of this issue. While I admit that doesnt sound fun to me, if that's what it took to avoid clomid and know for sure what was going on with my body, then Id do it for a month, but again, this is just my opinion. It certainly wont hurt to talk to your doctor about it but it would help him know how to help you if you had more concrete evidence.
It does help. Thank you!
