We recently discovered that Noah seems to sleep better (meaning longer) if we cover him with a blanket.  So I have been covering him with a crocheted blanket at night, which he often pulls up near his face.  I know it is totally wrong to have a loose blanket in the crib with him but he seems to really get comfort from it; he clutches it in his little hands and when you first lay him down if he's squirming and seems about to wake, just covering him with it will help him calm down and go to sleep.  And since it is crocheted, it has lots of holes in it.  But the truth is I'm doing it because it is letting ME sleep longer too. 

Please tell me some of you have also done this.  I feel terrible.

    No flames here.  If Mommy can get some more sleep that's a good thing. 

    We do the same thing.  We cover Leah with a crocheted blanket and/or an Aden and Anais blanket.  She likes to cuddle with them.  She can breath with them so we don't worry.

    No flames here. I don't do it - M still sleeps in a sleep sack - but a crocheted blanked seems breathable enough to be ok.

    I'm the bad, bad mommy who's always let her child sleep with a blanket.   Right now he LOVES a thick hand-tied fleece thing that someone gave him.  I do still have him on the motion detector monitor, tho, so in case something happens, I'm gonna know right away.  False sense of security, maybe, but he just loves to be cuddly warm in that thing and barely moves at night.

    Betty Jane has a favorite blankie (crocheted) which I let her sleep with during naps. I don't let her sleep with it at night because I would be constantly waking up to check the monitor to see if she's ok. She doesn't really need it at night because she STTN. However, there was one night when she was having trouble falling asleep and I let her cuddle with it until she fell asleep (about 20 minutes) and then sneaked in and took it out of her crib.

    I think a crocheted blanket is OK. Can he roll over now? If so, I think there's much less risk of SIDS. I stopped worrying about belly sleeping when LO was 4 months and he was very strong, rolling over and everything.
    Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.

    Thanks for sharing - I feel a lot better that I'm not alone!  He JUST rolled over from back to front for the first time yesterday - woo hoo!!  So far he just rolls onto his side when he sleeps, but he definitely loves to cuddle with that blankie.  Maybe I will invest in a motion detector monitor for nighttime too.
