We are thinking about moving and have found a home we love. The only downfall (aside from trying to sell our house) is that the master is on the main. In our current home, we are 15 feet from their room...can hear every cry and sound they make and can be in their room in two seconds if needed.
So- what do you think about master on the main? Would I hate not being right next door to them? Is it unsafe being so far away? Would I get tired of having to run upstairs? If you currently have master on main- what are your thoughts? And if you don't- and are reading this- what is your opinion??! Thanks ![]()
Re: Question & Opinions about Masters on the Main
We used to have a house with a master on the main and I didn't find it to be that big of a deal. It was the house we lived in when Caroline was born. She slept in the pack n play bassinet for her first 11 weeks in our bedroom and then we moved her upstairs. I think I used the baby monitor for about three days and then put it a drawer. We had a really open floor plan, so I could hear her pretty easily upstairs from anywhere in the house. The couple of times where she was up all night sick one of us just stayed up stairs in the guest bedroom. I just personnaly didn't like the master on the main because I felt like our bedroom was part of the main area of the house and it wasn't private.
I am not a fan of masters on main. I like to be close to the kids. A friend and I were talking about it (her master is on main), and she said she worries about a hosuefire and having to try to get up the stairs to get the kids. Fire is a fear of mine, so I would worry about that too.
It might be OK later in life, but I can totally see how it would be a pain as far as guests and privacy, noise, etc., if it was on the main level. I have thought about this, and I think I would prefer a house with everything on the same level. A basement would be acceptable, too. hahaha
