IUI to IVF - what do you think?

Hi Ladies,

So dang AF showed up today. I am super bummed because I am only at 10dpo so it was really fast. I was on my first round of injections and they said that can happen with a lot of women so no worries (at least I don't think). The reason I am bummed is because my meeting with my RE is on Wednesday, and I was hoping to switch to IVF if this round didn't work. I was just thinking that I did not take my first medication until the night of cycle day 6, and my appointment is on cycle day 6. I am hoping he will say, yes - let's just do IVF starting today. 

 For those of you who made the transition from IUI to IVF, does this sound possible or am I dreaming? Also, I am on Gonal-F - what meds are you on for IVF? I have to do all meds through a mail order so I am wondering if that would be another problem.

 What are your thoughts??

    Part of it depends on your RE.  However, the RE I did 2 IVF cycle and the RE I am getting a second opinion from both want a natural cycle before an IVF cycle.  Also, the RE that I did 2 IVF cycles with has set cycle dates.  So, you have to sign up for a cycle and then they usually have you on BCPs so you synch up with the start date.  It took me a couple of months to get things ready.

    Sometimes and RE will want to do some additional testing or schedule a mock transfer before you start your IVF cycle.  These could also cause you to be pushed back a bit.

    ~SAIF/PAIF/Everyone Welcome~ 

    Me= 37 and DH = 41 

    Dx: DOR, Endo, APA+ (really high beta 2 glycoprotein antibody and high everything else tested), heterozygous MTHFR mutation, positive for lupus anticoagulant, high FSH, low AMH and both tubes blocked (per HSG on 3/8/11)

    IVF #1 - long lupron (with HGH, intralipids, lovenox and BA); 4 retrieved, 3 fertilized; ET 2 blasts and 1 frozen = BFN

    IVF #2 - a version of antagonist with EPP (with HGH, intralipids, lovenox and BA); 6 retrieved, 4 mature, 3 fertilized, 2 blasts and 1 frozen blast transferred on day 5 = BFN.

    IVF #3 April was postponed to May, May was canceled. June/July was canceled. Had a cyst aspiration and then began IVF #3 in August. ER on 8/22; ET on 8/24 with AH. +HPT on 9/5. Beta #1 (11dpo) = 3; Beta #2 (15dpo) = 29; Beta #3 (17dpo) = 60; Beta #4 (19 dpo) = 118. Heartbeat at 6 weeks 6 days =132.  Lil is here!

    TTC#2:  Trigger + TI = BFN; Clomid + Trigger + IUI = BFN.

    IVF #4:  BCP + MDLF + Lovenox = 7R, 1F = Transferred 1 6-cell embryo on day 3 = BFN

    IVF #5:  MDLF + Lovenox = 4R, 1F = Transferred 1 10-cell compacting embryo on day 3 = BFN

    IVF #6:  (New RE):  Long Antagonist November 2014 (transferred two 8 cell grade 1 embryos and froze one blast) = BFN

    FET#1:  BFN

    I think it is a good possibility that your RE will support your switch to IVF.  However, there is some testing involved before you can even start stims plus you will most likely need to go on BCPs for a cycle before starting stims.  I don't think it will be that fast of a switch for you but you will be moving forward.  Good luck!

    It would be unlikely that you would go right into an IVF cycle - just because they want to have additional testing and like STL said they usually want you to start BCP's or suppression meds which happens the cycle prior.  You could maybe have testing done this month and cycle for IVF the next month though. 

    Good luck - I hope your RE can get things moving quickly!

    Honestly I would call asap Monday morning and talk to the nurse and ask her if you could start bcp for your IVF cycle since cd 6 might be too late to start them. I would call her/him and ask.
