Sawyer as a girls name??

Thoughts on Sawyer as name for a girl??  I would probably go with Sawyer Jane, the Jane being after my grandmother.  I'm interested to hear others thoughts....please!!  Thanks!

Terrible ? it is a boy's name and should stay that way. It is like naming your daughter Richard or Jackson.

I agree, strongly dislike, I would hate for my name to have been something so masculine

  • Not a girl's name. I would rank it up there with naming a girl Matthew or something.

Jane is a beautiful name though!

  • Super Angry Ick....Why do you want to name your GIRL a BOYS name, are you secretly wishing you are having a boy instead? and for the ladies that want to name their boys more girly names...are you secretly wanting a girl? Jimminy Christmas....

  • Abort!  Abort!  Abort!  Walk away!  Do not name your baby girl Sawyer.  If my parents named me such a masculine name I would spend my life wondering if they had really rather I'd been a boy.  I also would like be pissed to be spending so much time dealing with the "oh, you're a girl?" thing.  Jane is lovely, though!

  • ARGH! I hate this trend of giving little girls boy names! Please don't, it's awful and if I ever meet a little girl named Ryan or Sawyer or Jack I will judge her parents' intelligence hardcore.

  • That's actually one of my mom's favorite names for a girl. She always told me if she had a 4th baby and it was a girl it would of been Sawyer. I say go with it, it's pretty!

Also I've only known 1 Sawyer and it was a girl.

  • Dear god no. It's a last name that's marginal acceptable as a boy's first name, IMO.

Jane would be a great middle name, though.

  • I only know Sawyer's that are girls. I even have 1 in my family. It fits her perfect and she is very girly! Her middle name also begins with J. I love it so I say go for it.

  • Ick! for a boy

    Ick!Ick! for a girl

  • Don't like it....that being said, most unisex names out there didn't start that way & were also for "boys" at one point in time.

  • I do not like it for a girl. Jane is a great name though!

  • I usually like "boy name for girls" but Sawyer is terrible for a girl...LOL. I do like Jane, though.
  • Ick.  I like some boy names for girls, but this one is just not nice.  Jane is beautiful.

  • No, no, no, and no. Honestly, girl or boy, this is the only person who can really pull of the name Sawyer:

  • I absolutely LOVE this name for a girl. It is my top choice if we find out we are having a girl. I dont think its at all like naming your girl Richard or Matthew. Thats ridiculous. And who cares if its a boys name or a girls name. Its your child, you do what you like best :)

  • I don't even like the name for a boy. So it's definitely not a good name for a girl.
  • I like it. I think it's really cute paired with Jane too. :)

  • I used to hate it, but now I think I've heard it often enough on a girl that it's growing on me.

  • Because you named your baby something so much better? Nothing wrong with Sawyer, it's nowhere near naming a girl Ryan or Jack.
  • its so One Tree Hill...
  • @meghannwoodward, Are you trying to take a jab at a members already named child?
  • I think it's precious for a girl. Are you from the US? Be aware that a lot of commenters are not from the US and it seems other countries are more anti-boy names on girls then us. I posted quite a bit about the name Brynn (for a girl) and got tons of "Brynn is a BOYS name!" before I realized the commenters were not from the US.

    Good luck!!
  • I really like it with Jane too!

@nat2424 Um, no. MOST of the commenters are from the US. You have things backwards. Just because we think boy names on girls suck, doesn't mean we are foreigners.

I am from the US and yes, Bryn(n) is a boy name.

And again—this post is 3.5 years old. The OP has not been around since then.
Woah! Thats so strange it showed up at the top of the baby name boards. (I feel so clueless on here). Hopefully I haven't been posting on too many old posts!

It's so weird to scroll past a post you made forever ago in a zombie thread.

Thankfully, I still agree with myself.

I don't get the appeal of Sawyer. It's bad for a boy, god awful for a girl.
How about Sarah Jane, Samantha Jane, Sandra Jane.
