Babies: 6 - 9 Months

when can I give her pineapple (in mesh bag chewer thing)?

XP: I accidentally put this on 3-6 mo - woops and I can't delete it there!  We are 8 mo old (2 mo adjusted).

Can I put a piece of frozen pineapple in one of those mesh-food teether things for DD to suck on?  I think it would make her gums feel good and entertain her for a while.  She doesn't have any teeth yet so she won't rip the mesh bag.  I just wasn't sure when we can introduce citrus elements (if that's even a citrus?).

Pineapple is not Considered a Citrus Fruit - Can My Baby Eat Pineapple?

Pineapple is not a citrus fruit (it?s related to the bromeliad family actually.) however it can be acidic. Processed pineapple tends to be less acidic due to the processing and sugar/syrup that it?s packed in; but we're sure you?d rather not give pineapple out of the can. If your baby does not have any food intolerance's and has shown no propensity to getting rashes due to foods, then you might give it a try around 10 months old. Many parents do feed their little ones pineapple around 8 months old.

For pineapple, mash it up and add it to yogurt, cereal, chicken (yum.) even sweet potatoes. Pineapple tends to be fibrous and if it?s too fibrous, give it a gentle steam and see if it softens up enough for your baby.

  • It's okay to give now but it is acidic so I would watch for rashes and signs of an upset tummy.

  • I will be waiting longer for it, as well as oranges, tomatoes, etc.....just because DS1 didn't handle it well (and he didn't get them til around 12m).  They gave him a sore butt.  :(  Now at age 2.5 he has been eating them without a problem.....he eats tomatoes like they are candy!
