Not as a gov't employee. I can see why contractors would be worried, but our office budgeted to cover all of our labor first. We will have jobs to come to, we may just not have any work to do.
PP, it's because of the budget not being passed. We're under Continuing Resolution (CR) until 4 March, at which time Congress will either pass a budget of some kind or they'll extend the CR. There's some talk in our office that the likelihood of a year-long CR (which has never happened before) to be fairly high.
But no, I'm not worried about a 2 week furlough. A day or two? Maybe.

Not worried, just annoyed. I've been through gov't work stoppages before and it sucks as a contractor (which is what I am). Apparently 'sources' are saying they will pass the CR through the end of the gov't fiscal year and then just focus on the FY 12 budget and ignore FY 11.
Yes, I'm definitely worried about it. I'm a contractor and my DH is a fed, so I'm certainly hoping that they pass a CR so we can both get paid. I'm not sure how my company would handle a gov't shutdown, but I'm going to be talking to my boss about it soon. This is the kind of stress that no one needs. Sigh.
DH and I are both feds. It seems incredibly unlikely to me that we'd actually have a 2 week furlough. I wouldn't mind a couple of days, though. That could actually be good timing for us, since I'm due around then anyhow.
The talk here is the feds will be furloughed come March and the contractors (me) are secure because our contracts were paid through the CR budget. We'll see what happens.

Honestly I haven't really thought it was a real possibility but man after this thread I am wondering. I sat in on the web chats with our Department's Asst. Sec. this week and when people asked about furloughs he basically just glossed over it and didn't really acknowledge the possibility. I know my direct boss seems to think they'll just pass another CR like PP's mentioned.
I am not that concerned personally since my entire paycheck goes to savings. It bothers me others may be more financially impacted by it (likely backpay it anyways but if you are pay check to pay check...)

If you are a gov't contractor I wouldn't think you would have to worry until the end of your current contract.
I'm a contractor and they are talking about the division I'm in going away. So I'll have a job until May but won't know if it will get renewed or not.
