So, I was just going through my Bump checklist, and I noticed that there was an item about scheduling a non-stress test around week 39.
My questions is: Is this a test that everyone gets done? Or is it just if the dr. thinks the baby is in distress, etc. My OB hasn't mentioned this to me ever, and I am wondering if I should ask about it at my next appt or just leave well enough alone.
Re: Non-Stress Test ?
People get them done for a variety of reasons- GD, blood pressure, multiples, etc.
Most women who go past their EDD also are instructed to get them b/c it is a way to monitor the baby to check the placenta is still functioning properly since it is 'old'.

Agree with pp's. It's done if you have medical probs, or if you go past DD.
I has a NST on Weds, because I was full-term. All was great with our little guy.
I had one yesterday, b/c it was my weekly exam, but I am so close to my due date. I think they just do it to see if everything is ok with the heart rates activity and reactivity to the baby's movement. The heart rate is supposed to go up during movement, and then drop a little during rest.
I had never thought about it either or asked, they just did it to be overcautious.
