We are expecting our second little one in July. We already bought a Joovy Caboose Ultralight for longer walking outtings, but I realized that I probably need a side-by-side stroller still for walks around the block. We usually walk about 2-3 miles a day when the weather is nice. Other than that, I really probably won't use the stroller much. My daughter doesn't like to ride in the stroller when we go places, we we will just use our Chicco Cortina again with the infant carrier. I'm not looking to spend a whole lot since it won't be used that much.
Re: Looking for an inexpensive side-by-side for walks
We bought our Graco Duo Glider on Craigslist. If you aren't going to use it too much I would recommend that route. Sometimes you can find the newer styles on there like I did.
Side by Sides are hard to push especially when you have two 30 pound kids in them. My mom has a Peg Perego side by side, and hates it. That is just from my experiences.
I have the Peg Perego side by side and I like it (I don't LOVE it *** I did the single I had with DS #1, but I do like it). I've honestly never understood the criticism that side by sides are hard to push. I find them a lot easier to handle than tandems. I'm not a big person (like 5'0 and 105 lbs) but I have no problems pushing the Peg Perego around our neighborhood (it's rather hilly in some parts too) with 50 lbs worth of kids in it.
The Peg Perego was like $300 - not sure what your definition of inexpensive is. I have friends who really like the McLaren double but I have no experience with it. I don't like the way the Peg Perego opens and collapses, the sun shades on it aren't great and the top part of the buckle harness that connects to the stroller seats is easily detached everytime DS #1 sits forward. I wouldn't highly recommend it but it isn't hard to push.
I have a jeep double that I got at BRU for under $90...it works well for basic walks. There isn't a basket, but there is a parent cup holder.
I also use it when I fly alone with both kids in the airport.
We have this too and I like it as long as you have a smooth surface. Our sidewalks are horrible around here. I got a Baby Trend Expedition double jogger. It works great for our walks. It is very easy to push. If you do decided to go with this or any other type of jogger I would suggest a swivel front wheel. It keeps you from having to lift the front end when you turn. You can lock it for "running" but it really isn't made for everyday, long jogs.
