Tell me it won't be awkward!

DH got me a gift certificate for a maternity massage at Mitchell's for Valentines Day. I wanted to schedule it ASAP...just incase this baby arrives early, I don't want it to go to waste. The only time I can go next week is in the evening after work, and the only person who can do the maternity massage in the evening is a male. I've only had one massage before and it was a girl....I just want someone to reassure me that it won't be completely weird having a male do it!

It won't be weird at all. I've had several massages throughout the years, and maybe I'm weird, but I prefer a male massage therapist. I don't know why, but the touch is different -- maybe a little more pressure, but yet more gentle.

A maternity massage is somewhat less revealing than a regular massage, too, so that's in your favor. All of the men that I have ever had a massage with seemed to be very solicitous of your privacy. I think you will love it.

And if you're going to the West Chester location, I highly recommend Robert

That's who's doing it! Glad you like him! I was thinking the same thing about males probably being better at it...it's just weird to think about being practically naked in front of another guy, especially when I look like a whale!

it will be wonderful! i too prefer men when getting a professional massage. i agree with pp that the touch is different, pressure but gentile. it will be wonderful! enjoy every moment!

My prenatal massage at Mercy Healthplex in Anderson was with a male.....and my DH does theater with him, so I have been out with him socially. I thought it might be weird but it wasn't at all. He was very professional and the massage was amazing. ENJOY!

But I'll also admit -- and I bet many won't -- that I prefer a male OB/GYN than a female. Same reason.

Oh and Kari -- Robert is really a good listener when you tell him your trouble zones. Make sure you tell him what you want him to focus on and he does a great job. I had very specific issues with my back when I went and he made me feel like a million bucks.

And now thanks to Cooley, I feel a little like a tramp. Why does this feel like talking about sex?! Stick out tongue

Hmmmm, don't know. It wasn't obvious to me either way. He sure didn't hit on me, though, so maybe he IS gay. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I'll agree with you again though, I have always had a male OBGYN too. They just seem more understanding somehow. The two ladies at Seven Hills have always been at the bottom of my "like" list.

Hah....DH was just assuming he was because of his profession. But he also has a gay brother that has always worked in the beauty industry, so that's he's used to.

Me too! And honestly at this point, I would take a massage from ANYONE... wouldn't care about the gender. LOL!

I think it will only be weird if you feel weird about it. I have had massuer and I like them since men's hands are larger and stronger than women's. This is the same reason my mom prefers a male hairdresser LOL!
