Any thumbsuckers out there???

So..... DD1 never sucked her thumb, she did have a paci til 18 months.... but DD2 LOVES her thumb!!! She would rather have it than her paci. Well I have pros and cons about this..... Pro- can self soothe, Con- I can't cut off her thumb like I could take away a paci. Pro- She can't lose her thumb, Con- she gives herself thumb hickies..... lol.

So, what are your thoughts and experiences???

    Well, my son won't take a paci, so if he can self-soothe with his thumb, I'll take it. He only does it occasionally right now, so we'll see if it increases with time. I'm hoping he'll have different comfort items as he gets older (a blankie or something) and not rely on the thumb much, but only time will tell!

    My DD loves sucking on her fingers and even manages to get her thumb in every once in a while.  I'm going to introduce a pacifier soon, but I BF so I want to wait until we're established in that first.  So, anyhow my family was talking about this very subject last night.  We've decided that who cares if she sucks her thumb into adulthood.  My 34 year old cousin still does!  If it's comforting to her and it's in private once she gets older then so be it.  There are worse things.  Who doesn't want comfort for their LO?

    My LO was showing signs of being a thumb sucker, but lately he's more interested in jamming his entire fist in his mouth and gagging himself when he opens his hand while it's in there!
