Custom closets?

Our bedroom is on the third floor of the house, and we have basically a small room as our closet - we have shelving from Ikea with hanging rods, other shelf units and some mismatched drawers.  I would LOVE to have it simplified and organized and re-done, but we don't want to spend a ton of money (the room is roughly 10x12 witha slanted roof on one side).  I have no clue where to start.  I've looked at Home Depot and Closet Maid and I'm just really not good with designing, but I'm afraid having someone come in and design it will be super expensive.  I'm not looking for wood and fancy - just uniform and put together is fine.  I really like the freedom rail system that you put the rails on the walls and change arrangements as you need.  Anyone have experience with a custom closet?  How much did yours run?

Re: Custom closets?

  • We just bought some closet organizers from Sams Club recently.  They were $100 each but they are nice and you can arrange the shelves as you wan them.  It totally organized my small closet and I even have a shelf now for just my purses.  It's like 10 shelves with two rails for hanging.  So glad we did it, did it ourselves, loved it so much we bought a second one for another closet.

  • We got ours from the container store (the Elfa system). It is awesome! It's a little pricey, but the pieces are all modular and you can change things around as needed. We bought 4 of the closets for our pre-child condo, and they have come with us in 2 different houses. We just had to get a few different pieces to fit the new closets, but we have been able to reuse most of the pieces. It was well worth the money.
