Anyone take their kiddos here? For A's age range, it looks like there are music, play and learn, and open gym classes. I'm hoping that he'll have an opportunity to interact with more kids his age and have a cool, indoor place where he can safely run and play. It's about $80/month though, so pretty pricey.
There's a special offer now, so I was thinking of trying it out. Not sure if this is a good deal. At the least, it might make a couple months' worth of membership decently affordable --
- Free class o?n us.
- Receive a $50 Gift Certificate when you enroll at your free trial class
- Free Bubble Oodles
- Receive $25 in Gymbucks when you enroll
Re: Gymboree Play and Music
We've never gone (yet) for two reasons: 1) I'm not sure it's worth it until the child is at least able to crawl and move a little more freely. Feel free to chime in if you disagree, but I just sort of felt that if I'm paying that much for a "gym" experience, it might be better suited for a child closer to a year old or older? Henry doesn't do anything but roll yet.
and 2) the only class that is currently offered for Henry's age group is at the same time as our music class on Saturday mornings. Besides, I don't want to over-do the whole "class" thing at this young age!
But, when I'm off work in the summer months, I do plan on maybe taking a class there. I think if you're enrolled in a class you also get some open gym time free, too, no? If you take advantage of that, it might be worth it. It does look like a lot of fun, at least to try for a little while. That deal doesn't sound too bad if you're looking to try it!
E goes to the Play & Learn 1 class. I believe it's for babies 6 months and below. The music/activities are geared toward her age group. E likes it. She gives a big smile whenever we sing the songs from the class and now she sings along too (well, more of a babble lol). It's also good way for her to socialize with other babies. It's funny how she hates tummy time at home but when we do it in class and she sees other babies, she doesn't complain. Last week, we did an activity for Valentines day where we painted and put baby's footprints on a shirt to give to daddy for Valentines day. This coming Monday, there is a Father's night. The dads get to do with the babies what we (moms) do with them in class. The moms can just watch and take pictures. We were asked to bring a small appetizer to share so I guess there's a little socialization with other parents too. The level 1 class also includes discussion time for moms about parenting.
I also took advantage of the promo. I was only meaning to sign up for a month since I am going back to work soon but they want you to give them a month's notice before you cancel the membership so you need to enrol for at least 2 months. They have a pretty liberal make up policy so if you missed the class on the day you signed up for, you can make it up on the other days when the same class is scheduled. You can go to 2 classes a week. Yes, you get access to the open gym when you sign up in one of the classes.
I personally like it. It gave me an excuse to go out, socialize with other moms and do something fun with E. I suggest that you go to the free class and see if A likes it.
I agree with you, Leah -- wasn't really interested until he was mobile, but now he's walking and climbing and needing a safe place to go wild. Plus, I'd like to give him more opportunities to interact with kids his age.
Glad to hear that E likes her class! When I talked to the lady there, all the music selections and themes sounded really multicultural and creative.
I signed up for a free music class and the free play and learning one for now. If we like it, my hope is to do the music class for a month or two and take advantage of all the open gym time that comes with it. I don't anticipate doing it monthly for the long run right now, but with the "deal," it might be fun for us both. :-)
Glad to hear you like it! And that's exactly why I love our Kindermusik class, too.....it's great to have a reason to get out of the house and meet other families once a week. I can't wait to try a free class in June once school gets out.
This is one of the reasons why we have B in daycare once a week (along with inconsistent childcare as the other reason), but if we didn't do daycare, then I'd totally check out Kindermusik/Gymboree/other places that B could get more social interaction with his peers.
Question about the Gymbucks...it's only valid for purchasing goods, like clothes/etc, right? Not for future classes? but the gift certificate is?
Yeah, A is really social and loves going up to kids and adults when we're out to "say hi" and interact. I need to start giving him more extended opportunities for that kind of stuff.
I would guess Gymbucks are for use in the store, but I'm not sure. The lady told me the gift certificate gets applied upfront to fees -- and of course there's some lame $30 initiation fee, so you really just get $20 off the first month.
I couldn't find any Kindermusik classes near us.
Hmm I think the initiation fee is $50 which is where the $50 gift cert went. We only paid $77 for the first month which is the monthly fee for the class.
Wow, I'm amazed that something is actually cheaper here in Hawaii! Yeah! After the GC and initiation, the first month comes out to $60 or so. After that it's about $80 per month. Hope A likes it as much as little E!
