So me and my husband are trying to move. But waiting on income tax return. He is active duty military and we are looking for a 4 bedroom house/townhouse. We currently live outside of DC as he is stationed at Andrews AFB. We are having issues finding reasonable housing prices to rent a 4 bedroom. He is scheduled to be deployed in December. My mom is planning on moving up here in August to help with the baby so i can go finish my BA in nursing and get my RN also to be here for when he leaves. We will only be at this base for 2 years after our baby is born so this rental would be temporary. We want to get a 4 bedroom because a guy on my husbands flight only has 2 years left here as well and wants to rent a room/basement from us. He plans on giving us 600 a month which is cheap for this area. My mom also plans on giving us 600$ and help baby sit only so we can save money to put towards a mortgage when we get stationed to our next base. So the only issue is i am 1 year from my BA and thats going to school FT. I havent been working since we moved here a year ago. I was pregnant when we moved here and had a miscarriage and got pregnant again in less than 2 months. Ive been on bed rest since i was 3 months so working hasn't been a option for me. So my main question would be living arrangements. We are having issues finding a 4 bedroom place in a good neighborhood that is with in our budget. We want to be under 2300 a month for rent and will be paying for things just me,him and his friend until my mom gets here. So i was thinking we could get a 3 bedroom or maybe if lucky a 3 bedroom with a den/basement. But me being a first time mom i am unsure if having your child stay in your room with you for 2 years is a good idea. I dont want her to have issues with being in a room by herself. We just really wanna try to save as much money as we can so we have money to put towards a long term home in two years after my hubby re-enlists and hopefully gets to include his base pick since he will be a E-7 then. But have any of you had issues with having your child stay in your room for 2 years? My husband thinks it may hinder her in being independent. And having our privacy is important to him. Just looking for some more pro's and con's with this. And yes we can afford a 4 bedroom but they seem to be few and far between and some nice ones we have found are 30 miles away from the base which really sucks..just 3 bedrooms are more abundant it seems.
Re: 2nd or more time moms questions about living arrangements
My DS slept in his pack n play in our room for the first 9 months while I BF'd. We then transitioned him into his room with no problems. That being said I wouldn't have done it much longer - definitely no longer than one year. Transitioning is much harder once they are older. My SIL co-slept with her daughter for the first two years. SIL then tried to put her DD in her own room and it was a complete nightmare. At 4 years old SIL was still having problems with getting her DD to sleep in her own room.
ETA: We are going through this too. The landlords of the house we currently rent are not renewing our lease because they want to sell the house. We just found a beautiful 4 bedroom for about $2000 that we are moving to next month. I don't know where you looked but some of the sites I went to were www.rentals.com, www.rentalhouses.com, www.zillow.com, and also craigslist. We actually found our house through craigslist. A lot of realtors will post there listings there but you do have to weed through a lot of crap.
I would see if you could look for a 3br with a den? Then the den could be the baby's room since a kid under 2 really doesnt need much room. Why can't you look for base housing?
From the base page~
Housing: What is the process for me to rent my home to military families at Joint Base Andrews? Who should I contact? How do I put my home for rent on Andrews? website?
Thank you for supporting our military families. There are several options available to you. To list a property on the Web for military members, log on to the Department of Defense housing listings website www.ahrn.com. You can also take out an ad in the Capital Flyer classifieds by calling Comprint Military Publications at 301-670-2505. Also, you can give your information to the Off Base Referals Office by calling 301-981-5165.
I also found these homes.

If you can't afford a 4 bedroom without the extra rent from roommates, don't get a 4 bedroom.
Our son stayed in our room until he was 2 years old and transitioned to his own room and a twin size bed with no problems whatsoever. Did we have to get creative when it came to sex? Absolutely. But other than that, nothing really changed.
