Flexible schedule

What is your flex schedule like?

I am working on a proposal so any help is much appreciated

Re: Flexible schedule

  • We work a 37.5 hour full-time week. I work M-TH in-office from 7 to 4:30 with a 1/2 hour lunch and 7 to 8:30 am from home on Fridays.

  • Not sure if this is what you had in mind, but I work 3 days a week in the office and 2 days a week at home. My in office days arent usually 9-5, I either come in early (7-3) or stay late (9:30-5). Then my work from home days I usually work 8-5. If I am really busy I may come in on my work from home days...but times when my kids are sick, or there is a lot going on at home my boss will let me work 3 days at home. I am lucky that I have a flexible boss who doesnt care where or how many hours the work gets done in, he just cares that it gets done. So some weeks I probably am not close to 40 hours a week, but other weeks I might have to log in once the kids are in bed to get some things done.
  • I am a little bitter but I proposed working 7:30-5:30 four days a week and working 1-5 one day a week and I got shot down!  Just make your proposal but be prepared for them to say no.  I was so convinced 4 hours would be no big deal but I was wrong and have to put Keira in daycare 4 hours a week.  Angry
  • I am going to submit the following.

    Mondays off

    8-6 T and F

    9-7 W and TH

But I am a little worried that my days will feel super long.  Is it worth it for the one day off?

Also, I pay my nanny per day.  Would/should I pay her more per day since her hours will increase? And should I check with her before even submitting the proposal to my boss?

  • I can't comment on the nanny-thing but I don't feel like my days are long at all...however, I am a morning person and start at 7 so I can be out at a "normal" time. If I had to work until 6/7 pm, there's no way I would do it.

  • From a management perspective, just be clear what you're asking for.

Flexible schedule - hours change frequently to accommodate various needs

Alternate schedule - hours are regularly scheduled, but not M-F 9-5.

As far as the actual days and hours, it all depends on your office.  If Mondays are usually much busier than other days, that may get your proposal shot down.  If coming in at 9 would, for example, mean that no one was covering the phones for an hour in the morning, that could be a problem.  If your Mondays are slow with few meetings and staying in at 7 is a benefit to the company (or at least not a problem), then you've got a good shot with your proposal.

    Good luck!

  • My modified part time schedule is technically Monday - Thursday 10:30 am to 5:00 pm.  But, I will calendar things earlier than 10:30 and sometimes have court appearances on Fridays.  I generally get to the office before 10:30 and have a court appearance at 8:30 am about once per week, so it just depends for me what is on my calendar.
