~~~~ Low Supply Check-In ~~~~
This is a weekly check in where ladies who are dealing with a low supply of breastmilk can share their successes and get support for their challenges and difficult days.
Here's a link to a great post by JenniferJaneC from last year rating all the supply boosters she tried.  You can also make lactation cookies or lactation banana bread.  The cookies are really good and hey it means you get to eat cookies guilt free!!
Question of the Week: What are you most afraid of with regards to your low supply?
    I would really like to get back into shape but I'm afraid to start working out since it's only those extra calories that would be burned up working out that go towards milk production and I don't want what supply I have to be diminished at all.  Anyone else?
    I guess what I'm most "afraid" of is that DD is going to start needing more and we are going to have to supplement with formula.  I'm at my max for pumping and nursing- I can't seem to make an extra drop and I worry that she already isn't getting enough so I weigh her every week.  Why I'm most worried about supplementing with formula is that DS had such severe allergies (and still has some, just not as many) and I really think the best thing I can do for DD is to EBF.
    I'd love to get back into shape as well, but anytime I reduce my calories, I notice a decrease in pumping output, so it is what it is :)  Getting in shape can wait.
  • I have started working out again, but I just make sure to replace the calories that I am burning.  I am not losing weight, but my cardiovascular fitness is getting better and I have started doing some strength work so that when I can start trying to lose, I have toned and added some muscle mass.  The extra muscle will help to burn extra calories when the time comes.  I am taking it really easy, and so far I haven't noticed any further drop in supply.
    I think my biggest fear is that if I can't breastfeed enough then Emma isn't getting all the benefits of the breastmilk.  The majority of my friends.family have bf, but those who have formula fed have sick LO's much more often.  I just want my baby to be as healthy as possible!
    I hope everyone has had a good week!!
  • My biggest fear at this point, is since I'm looking for a job, that I won't be able to nurse or pump as often as I need to, and my already-tenuous supply will tank as a result.
    I'm trying to find a job in a family-friendly firm, part-time (just to get out of the house...I have PPD - I need the distraction), but we shall see.
    I'm also afraid of working out and getting back into shape, since I hear it can my supply tank.  This sucks, too, since the only clothes that fit me are yoga pants and DH's thermal shirts.  I refuse to buy more clothes because I have to lose weight.
  • With this last child I wanted to try to go at least until 6 months without having to supplement with formula or starting cereal...but that was not the case, all of my babies have had to be supplemented as I just cannot either produce enough milk or one that has enough calories...in any case, my biggest fear was that my baby would prefer the fuller feeling of the formula and prefer that to me (as happened with my second child).  So far he has been supplemented with formula and cereal for the last 2 weeks and that does not seem to be the case :)
    I'm afraid that my daughter is not getting enough to eat so I supplement with a little formula. ?I am also afraid that my daughter will not be as healthy as she could be because I have not been able to EBF. She is 9 months and most days we have to use a few ounces of formula. ?
  • Please add me to the list! DD's name is Eva. DOB 7/12/10
     I am so afraid of working out. I am in a wedding in August and I got measured yesterday and I am one solid tree trunk of a lady right now. I exercise sometimes but I am just so scared of a supply dip after working so hard to get my supply up.I am also finishing my domperidone soon so tha is a stressor, but not as big as feeling fat all the time. DH always tells me how beautiful I am, but sometimes its not enough.
    Question of the Week: What are you most afraid of with regards to your low supply?
    I'm afraid that I wont have enough milk to fill DD up when BF. She takes a bottle of pumped milk at daycare. I'm waiting for the day she rejects the boob cause it takes more effort for her.
    I'm always looking for something to help! Mothers milk is a no, and fenugreek seems to work, but I have to take like 6pills a day.
