Health & Exercise

My baby has rejected exercise...

Ladies, I'm struggling. Prior to pregnancy, I was a yoga instructor, moutain biker and training for my first half marathon. Ever since the BFP, I've been struggling with non-stop m/s. In the beginning, I tried going to the gym for 20min on the eliptical, but did not work out (ending in dizzyness and vomitting). Since then, I've tried walking several miles on multiple occasions, each time I've done my walk, the next morning I've found my m/s to be significatly worse than on days where I did not exercise the night before. My OB doesn't think much of this, "just don't exercise for a while." Ugh! Is this happening to anyone else? Does it make sense that my body's "rejecting" the exercise right now? So bummed!

  • Don't be too hard on yourself! Your body is doing something amazing which is alot of work without the additional exercise. For the whole first trimester I was so lazy, I couldn't get my a$$ off the couch if I didn't have to! Second trimester I felt so much better & was able to get active again. I started power walking and jogging again around 14 weeks & continued until the day I delivered.

I would just listen to your body & rest when you need it, hopefully in a few weeks you will feel more like yourself & be able to get back into things!

  • You're body is adjusting and working hard at baking that baby. Rest and do what you can. Drink tons of water to help with m/s.
  • That's pretty normal.  I'm an avid runner and had to stop completely for most of first trimester.  Started running again at 14 weeks and am still going strong at 30 weeks.  Definitely listen to your body.  It was definitely disappointing during first tri, but it wasn't a big deal to start it up again in second tri.
  • I understand and can relate to your frustration.  It's hard to not be able to do the things we are used to doing.  I was sick and/or fatigued up until 18 weeks.  Just listen to your body and cut yourself some slack.  As others have said, your body is working very hard, and you will feel better overall when you listen to it.  Don't try and fight through it.   The good news is that there is an end in sight and you should feel better and be able to get more active during the 2nd tri.  I was able to get back to yoga, spinning and yoga, and still doing all of them now at 33 weeks.  Good luck and hang in there!
