Check out Lululemon on Michigan Ave. Both that store and the one on Rush have free yoga classes on Sat/Sun mornings. One week a month at the Michigan Ave store is a prenatal class.
I have also heard good things about Bloom, but never been.
Soulistic Studio and Spa has a few prenatal classes that are good (prenatal yoga, pilates and pilates reformer). Check out their website for class info. I enjoyed the yoga classes and the pilates was a nice workout!
I like Prenatal Yoga at Bloom in Lincoln Square (Rockwell, south of Lawrence). Its a great class, particularly later in your pregnancy or if you are looking for something pretty gentle early on. I first went at 17 weeks and it felt very relaxing t0 me but I was one definitely an early bird compared to most everyone else in the class who was post 24 weeks. Dee is wonderful- she shares good information and also gets the women in class interacting with each other so you are bound to get to know some other mom-to-bes. I continue to take it on Sundays when I can but I know that have other time offerings as well.
I have heard good feedback about Prenatal yoga at Self-Centered Yoga (Belmont and Leavitt) also. I have taken regular Yoga classes there with Silvita and thought she was great but I don't think she teaches Prenatal there any longer.
** Shameless plug ** If you are interested in Pilates at all, I am a Pilates teacher and teach the Prenatal classes at Helios Center for Movement in Roscoe Village. (Belmont and Oakley). These classes are not on the reformer but a Mat based prenatal class using the stability ball (which feels fantastic for my pregnant body right now) and other small props.
Wow, thanks for the info! I have never actually done pilates. Do you think the class would be ok for a beginner? As you can see I'm almost 16 weeks but need to get moving again. I always have more motivation when I'm signed up for a class
Of course the class would be appropriate -it is designed for women of all levels and stages of pregnancy. You can check out the studio website for more information- www.heliosmovement.com Currently, the Prenatal class is on Monday nights at 7:30pm and right now we have women ranging from 19-25 weeks but it is open to all. You can always just try it once and see what you think!
