My favorites were the gifts from recent moms giving stuff that they thought were very useful. Example a newish mom gave us a pack of those Aden and something blankets because she uses them all the time. I will get a lot more use out of that than a piggy bank (We got 3 of those)
Other than gift cards (boring but SO practical), I really appreciated one of my friends who gave me a bunch of unexciting little "essentials" - things like hangars, rings to hang toys from the carseat/stroller, diaper genie refills, dishwasher baskets, etc. it was super useful to have that stuff on hand when i needed it and not have to go out and buy it.
I always do Sophie and the book Wonder Weeks since I've learned from multiple girls on here about how awesome they are. Someone else suggested giving a Moby or making one and printing out the directions. Or, I'll buy a bunch of boob things--breast pads, milk bags, etc. Just because I'm like a 12 year old in that. Lol!
Sophie, a moby wrap, diapers. Maybe diapers were so exciting to me since we have two babies! SwaddleMes or Aden & Anias blankets if they plan to swaddle, magazine subscription to Parenting the Early Years, shutterfly or roberts giftcards for them to print pictures if they're into that. Offers (and follow throughs) for cleaning, cooking etc after the baby is born.
Anything from my registry, to be completely honest. While I appreciated the gifts we received, we didn't get much that we actually *needed*.
This exactly. And gift cards.
I hated getting clothes. Maybe this sounds ungrateful, but NONE of the clothes we got were our style, and very few had gift receipts or even tags. I've thus made it a rule that I will NEVER buy clothes for a baby shower.
I'm pretty picky about stuff. If it wasn't on my registry, then I had no plans to buy it or use it.
The one exception I've made is when a friend told me she wanted to breastfeed but didn't know where to start. I got her a basket of stuff like a book, Lansinoh cream, pads, and a nursing cover. I included a gift receipt for everything
