Trying to Get Pregnant

Ladies who have been trying more then 10 months...

Has anybody noticed the length of your luteal phase getting shorter and shorter? I came off of BCP in december 09, and started charting in September 2010, and when I started charting, my luteal phases were 13/14 days with no spotting until at least day 13 or 14. Today, I started real period bleeding on 10DPO.

Has anybody else encountered this? Im kind of worried. MH and I want to wait it out a couple months before I go back and see my Dr, but If my luteal phase is going to keep getting shorter and shorter, I dont want to waste my time. I had an HSG  in December and we had high hopes to get pregnant afterwards (my right tube was blocked but they unblocked it).

This AF marks my one year trying :(  I just don't know what to do. Im sad this hasn't happened yet, and a little worried it never will.

Re: Ladies who have been trying more then 10 months...

  • Is this the first LP you've had that's less than 10 days?

If LPD is indeed your issue, take heart that it may be a simple fix! :)

I'm sorry you've been trying for so long. It's normal to worry that it will never happen. I wish I could promise you that it will happen. In the meantime, I hope it helps to consider that the statistics are on your side. Chances are you will get pregnant within a reasonable time of starting treatments if you go that route.

Yeah, It is the first one this short. I don't know if that is my issue, or something else, but I was very surprised this morning when I wiped, and saw AF.

Im worried about moving on to the next level of treatments because I know we will have to pay OOP for everything. So I was really hoping this would happen on its own. I'm probably going to try a couple more months and then have my Gyno refer me to an RE. :(

I've actually been noticing the opposite. But I was never on any form of BC, and I attribute my LP lengthening to acupuncture.

If it was just one LP that was 9 days, I wouldn't worry too much. If it happens again I might call the doctor just because you said your LP has been decreasing over the last few months.

    Good luck :)

  • Sorry :( I know it sucks. One LP under 10 days is no cause for worry. So hang in there! I hope you get your BFP soon without medical intervention. Wish I kept a tally of all the cycle 13 pregnancies I've seen around here, or BFPs right before they were about to go to an RE.

Thanks, Last cycle I started spotting at 7 DPO, and that lasted until 12 DPO, and then AF showed. It seems like the longer im off BCP, the wonkier my cycles get!

I hope so! It would completely throw me for a loop, because right now, I assume its pretty much not going to happen. The only reason I test is because DH wants me to.  Hes WAY to positive.

  • We've been trying for 13 months and my luteal phase has gotten longer. But it started out at 8 days and I"ve been taking 50mg of vitamin B6 for almost a year now, which is why it's longer.

So you've been charting for 5 months and this month your LP was 10 days...what did Oct., Nov., and Dec. look like for your LP? Were those months shorter too? If your LP is indeed getting shorter, it's a very quick and easy fix, so don't worry!

I had my HSG done a month ago, so I'm in a similar boat as you. I never thought it would take us this long to get pregnant, it's pretty disheartening. I definitely struggle with worries that we'll never be able to get pregnant. But until I hear that from a Dr., I'm not going to stress myself out over is, we have to just keep moving forward, you know? Best of luck!

    September - 14 days

    October - 14 days

    November -13 days

    December - 13 days

January - spotted since 7 DPO AF on 12 dpo

February - Spotted on 9 dpo and AF on 10 dpo.

Im hoping its a quick easy fix too. I never in a million years thought this would happen to us. Im trying to let this happen naturally because I know anything I do will be OOP for us. /:

  • Just wanted to throw this out there-- many women find that consultation appointments, diagnostics (like ultrasounds) and blood work are at least partially covered. So if you do go that route that is something to ask about. It eases the OOP pain a little, even if the actual ART procedures (IUI, IVF) and meds aren't covered.
  • It looks like you are still just spotting at this point (based on your chart) so I wouldn't worry too much. Like other ladies said, if it is really is LPD, that is a quick fix. If your worrying gets the best of you, I'd just call your OB and see what he/she thinks. It won't hurt anything to get an opinion on whether you should wait it out a few more months, or go in for some bloodwork. Good luck to you!

Thanks! I need to call my insurance company again, just to make sure! I need to sit down with my DH and talk and see what our next steps are. This is all new to me so I have a lot to learn.
