another poo post (tmi warning)

OK, B's diarrhea issue ended early Sunday.  He didn't poop again that day, nor Monday or Tuesday.

Tuesday night he had rank farts.  The farts were beyond anything I've ever smelled before.  He also had some burps that were stinky (not as many though).

When he woke up this morning, he pooped.  I wasn't home.  According to DH, it was nasty- it got everywhere and was disgusting.  I have no idea what it really looked like.  DH threw out his PJ's and the old towel he used so I can only imagine.  He then gave him a bath.  The poo rattled DH to the point where he called the pedi this morning.  They said to call back if he ran a fever/had more than 3 diarrhea episodes later today/stopped playing like normal.

Later today, he had remnants of the AM poo.  Nothing alarming.  No fever.  Played like normal all day... just tired (but he didn't sleep well last night)

He went to bed at 7:45 tonight, and he's been coughing off and on a bit.

So....  is this viral?  Something else?  Or is this morning his body trying to get back to normal from this past weekend?   Any ideas?

Re: another poo post (tmi warning)

  • One thing I learned with DS's diarrhea is that it can take a long time for the gut to fully heal after a virus.  If he isn't running a fever and acting normal, I would just try to restrict his diet a little to give his intestines time to get back to normal.  Keep him on bland food, keep trying to give him BRAT diet stuff, and keep him off dairy a few more days.  You could also try to give him some acidophilus.  I just dump some from an adult capsule into applesauce or something.  But I would definitely call the pedi if it lasts a couple of days.

  • Sounds like Rotavirus. I always know it by the smell. It is WAY worse than any other diarrhea and has a distinct smell. Sortof sulfur-ish. Also, I noticed that the poo itself is sortof foamy and a strange color. Also lots of gas like you mentioned.

Since our boys have had the Rotateq vaccine, the runs is all the have gotten. (at least in this instance)

That has been our experience anyways.

I agree with PP, just keep food simple for a few days.

    Good luck!
