1st Trimester

When do you start to show or feel anything in your belly?

I'm 11 weeks and 5 days pregnant with my first and I am wondering at one point does one begin to feel their uterus at all or begin to show at all? I'm being realistic and know that this little bit of extra flub is just from my few pounds of weight gain and bloating. When I lay down, I cannot feel anything on my stomach or near my pubic bone except for my pubic bone! I know its also probably different for everyone but I would like to know what is most common for ladies? I'm pretty petite but no stick, so I'm wondering if I'm gonna be one of those ladies who don't show until their like 25 weeks which would kinda stink because I'm really looking forward to buying clothes for the sake of my belly :) and not because I've put on a few inches in all the wrong places!!!

Re: When do you start to show or feel anything in your belly?

  • And by all the wrong places, I mean my thighs, back, waist (not stomach) and hips literally (my hips have extra thickness around them, I swear)

  • Haha. I hear ya on the "all the wrong places thing. :)

Showing varies a lot. I know itty bity tiny girls who didn't show till 24 weeks and slightly larger girls who looked obviously pregnant much earlier, and vice versa. Sorry, I know that answer sucks, but it really does just depend on you, your body, and how you carry.

  • Oh, and PS. It's really hard to "feel" your uterus from the outside until someone shows you where the top of your uterus is. It's one of those things where once you've felt it, you'll be able to find it yourself, but it's hard to do before then. :)

  • OIY! How does one determine "how one carries" ?
  • Haha. It'll become obvious as you get further along. Wink

  • I was showing at 17 weeks and felt my son kick me for the first time at that week also. I am petite, but a little overweight (ugh.) I hope you start to show when you want to show and gain it all in the right places!

  • I completely understand what you are talking about! I'm only 9 weeks and i seriously cannot wait until i see my bump! I keep passing by all these maternity shops and feel so tempted to shop but i still have nothing there. I guess we are just really excited and deep down i feel like when i start seeing the bump it will starting hitting me more and more that this is REAL i will be a mommy soon!

  • In first tri all that got bigger were my hips :-( Until about 21-22 weeks no one could tell I was pregnant (although people who knew and were trying to be nice would say that they were starting to see my bump). I feel like it's really just within the last week that I've started to shift from the "is she just gaining weight or is she pregnant?" stage to the "hm... I think she's pregnant" one. I'm 5'6" and totally average-sized.

There's no way to know when you'll start to show - you've just got to be patient, unfortunately. And I have an anterior placenta on my left side, so I felt my first definite kick at 20w3d (I can remember because it was the night of our anatomy scan when we found out she's a girl) on my right side and still have a dead spot on my left side where my placenta is - I can feel her kick/hit/move everywhere else, but not there.

  • I started showing around 13wks with my first and 5.5wks with this one. Yes, I know it's bloat but I'm showing.

  • OIY! I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be one of those "is she gaining weight or is she pregnant?" girls! I am almost 12 weeks and like I said, other than flub that I know is from the weight, I feel nothing!!! It's pretty funny because the weight came first :) and I'm sure there is only more to come! Good grief!

How do you tell where your placenta is?

On the ultrasound the doc can determine where your placenta is.  I felt movement at 13 weeks, but didn't start showing until about 24 weeks.

  • Just this week I've been able to find where my uterus is. Last time I had no clue.  I'm also one of those that has the "is she pregnant or just fat" thing going on.
  • With my first, I didn't start to show (other than looking a bit plumper) until around 18 weeks.  If I were you, I'd look into maternity pants with either an expandable waist or a low panel that will work now (in the plump stage) and later (in the definitly showing stage).  Good luck.

This is happening to me! I can't really tell just by looking at myself but my pants are getting snug around my hips!  Ugh!  I'm 10 weeks 2 days and I just feel fat, with no bump to show for it!

  • I didn't start showing until about 18 weeks with my first. But even then I think it was closer to 20 weeks when it became obvious.

I think I'll be in maternity clothes earlier this time around. Already feel so bloated!

  • I didn't start showing with my first until about 16 weeks (i'm short and curvy - and it was like one night i had tummy chub and the next it was a bowling ball!) my second I started showing at like 14 weeks, but I was thinned when I got PG the 2nd time then I was the first (funny my Dh's best friend saw me on a wednesday, and the saw me on the next saturday and went "Whoa, you got really PG, really quick!) so I seem to go from nothing to boom PG all in like a few days Everyone is different! You'll show soon!
