Clear vomit or spit-up?

I'm a lurker but read just about every day.  My first time posting so please bear with me.  Let me first say that LO been fighting congestion and a cold and we've been working on keeping the mucus out of her nose.  I have noticed a few times that she's been spitting up some clear stuff and I just assumed she was spitting up the snot she had been swallowing.  She hasn't been fevered and has been eating pretty normal (EBF) and has had a normal amount of wet/dirty diapers. Today I get a call from her daycare telling me that she had vomited four times in an hour and they were concerned that she had a virus or something.  Just last week they made me come pick her up because they insisted she had a virus because she had 3 uncontained bouts of poo.  So, I asked the director what the consistency of the "vomit" was and they said it was pretty clear/watery with some specs of milk in it. Long story short, I call LO's doctor before picking her up and they confirm my belief that she's probably just choking on the mucus since she's not showing any other symptoms. I called the daycare back and they told me to "use my best judgement" for tomorrow and suggested I keep her home.  I feel like maybe they were jumping the gun with the whole vomit issue because to me vomiting in relation to a virus is painful and happens quite a few times in a short period of time.  I guess my question for all you moms is have you experienced this? Is this real vomit or just mucus spit up?? LO never really has any gas/reflux issues but she has always been a spitter and has continued to gain weight and is always happy. TIA!!

  • DD spits up clear with white chunks. She has no mucus issues though. But them sending her home for three poops is a bit crazy.

  • DD used to spit-up a lot, and often times clear... pedi said it was regular spit-up, just not completely digested formula/BM. If you're talking vomit... it's probably just from the congestion. DS hardly ever spits up, but if he's congested he tends to projectile vomit after a cough. Either way your DCP seems to be a little over cautious. GL!

  • Mine does the same (clear spit up). I just assumed it's from all of the spit she is making. It happens after she eats (EBF). It's like she fills up on milk and then swallows so much slobber she spits it back up because she's overfull?

  • Thanks guys! Honestly, I'm thankful that her DCP is doing their best to keep me informed but this whole vomit issue has got me really worried. As a first time mom I feel like I've pretty much got the hang of this raising a baby thing but then something like this happens and it gets me worried sick. It has totally made me lose all confidence. I didn't sleep at all last night because I couldn't stop thinking that maybe it really was vomit and that it's all my fault. Maybe I'm eating something bad that's upsetting her tummy but she doesn't act like she's got a tummy ache... I just have all these fears that I'm doing everything all wrong!  Hopefully, vent over :)
  • Our Dr told us that the clear spit up is caused by all of the Drool Ashton has from his teething. It makes sense if you think about it. Sure there will be some milk in it, it's been in his tummy. I think that sending LO home for that is a bit extreme with no other sypmtoms.
