? about paci and teeth

H still takes a paci, usually only during nap and bedtime. He uses the MAM pacis and I am starting to notice his top teeth (namely the 1st 4 front) taking on a U shape. Does that makes sense? Has any one else had this happen? I'm debating on whether we should start weaning him from it. He loves that stinkin' thing!

Re: ? about paci and teeth

  • I thought the same thing about Noah....I'm not really sure if they were actually moving or not though.  He's got some really pointy, funny looking canine teeth so that always makes his mouth look funny.  But I was concerned enough that we decided to get rid of the paci.  I'm glad we did it though...it's one less thing to worry about.

  • DS's dentist told me that a paci will not change the shape of the teeth.  They would shift like that without the paci.  He encouraged us not to force him to give it up because of the concern he would start sucking his thumb, which would be way worse.  He isn't concerned about the paci until DS starts getting adult teeth.  So help me God, it better be gone by then!

  • K-- those were my thoughts, I wasn't sure if I was making things up in my head or if they really were moving!

J--thanks! That makes me feel better! I think I was paranoid bc I was a thumb sucker and I had an over bite bc of it! I didn't want to take it away just yet so I'm glad to hear that! Oh and I would much rather have a paci taker than thumb sucker bc honest to God, I knew a high school girl who still sucked her thumb! Talk about changing the shape of her adult teeth, holy crap!
