How do you prepare apples for BLW? Raw makes me nervous for choking, but I don't want them super mushy, either. So how do you make apples? Do you think baked apple fries would work?

The easiest way I've found is just to slice, and throw them in a microwavable container with a little water. Our microwave has a fresh veggie button and that gets them nice and soft. I used to leave the peel on and he would just suck off the flesh. Lately he has been trying to eat the whole thing and sometimes he gets it stuck and has to practically throw up! I've since been taking the peel off (it comes off really easily after the apples are steamed). I've never tried doing the fries, but that would probably solve the peel problem!
Thanks, I'll try the steam! I think both ways would be good, but I think there might be a skin that forms in the oven, so steaming might be a better place to start.

Definitely not raw apple slices/chunks at that age ;-) You can grate it like cheese though. Otherwise, I'd go with steaming if you want to keep them plain.
Oh. I have been giving DD slices or chunks of raw apple on occasion. She has two really sharp teeth on the bottom and the top ones are coming up. I am so impressed about what she can bite in. But of course I always sit right there with her.

I have let DS gum on a raw slice a few times while I was holding it. But glad to know the steaming thing works well. I've been trying to think of a way to let him have some apple by himself since he seems to like it so much. I think once he gets the teeth through that he's been working on so hard lately, we may try the steamed apple fries too.
We have done baked, steamed and boiled. We just switched to raw last week and he loves them. His teeth were really bothering her so I thought the raw would feel good and we have had no problems. I just cut them with the apple slicer and then peel them. He has issues with the peels.
I didn't even think to try steamed, I'm going to try that today. We did baked last week and must have cooked them too long because they were mush and she didn't really care for them.
