What small items do you feel comfortable buying?

My mother called and said that she had a gift card, the kind you can use anywhere from when she bought her dishwasher and would like to spend it on things for the baby. DW and I agreed to go but only to buy small things, bottles, drying rack etc. At this point, what do you feel comfortable buying?

I have to be completely honest here & admit that I have not bought a single baby related item yet. My mom did buy two adorable little gender-neutral onesies for the baby, but I have nothing else at this point. I am not sure if it is a comfort thing or not. Maybe partly, but mostly, I promised DH that I wouldn't go crazy & buy a bunch of stuff until after our Anatomy scan so then I can at least manage to do more focused shopping. Not to mention the fact that we are trying to pay down debts & put more money in savings before baby comes.

I bought a blanket to use as basis for the color scheme of the nursery, then a sling with that promo code for sevenslings.com. Haven't really been able to get totally pumped about baby shopping yet, I guess. My mom wanted to buy some clothes this past weekend but I convinced her to wait until we have the gender scan in a few weeks.

I do think the basics are always safe, though - feeding gear like you mentioned, pacis, burp cloths, diapers, etc.

we have only bought 2 unisex onesies. but other people have bought us like a bath time kit and a dr kit with like nail clippers, brush, something that goes in their nose, etc. and we also got 2 of the same gift already! 2 sets of the same yellow hooded towels. I figure its all usable if its a gift

Oh we also go this thing that you can put frozen fruit in and the baby can suck on it. not sure what age its for.

I have been browsing the clearance racks at BRU for the past few weeks. The only things I have gotten are two gender neutral blankets, a yellow bath robe, and a cream winter jump suit for next year.

Nope. We got one cute "I NY" onesie from a friend of mine, but otherwise do not have a single baby-related thing in the house. In our 1 bedroom in NYC, there is zero room for baby stuff until we move to a 2 bedroom this summer and have an extra room to put it in...so the shopping will begin in June/July!

no no. I feel wierd having recieved stuff so early. I think it's cause its the first grandchild on both sides of my family and his and first great grandchild for both of mine. but who knows. makes me feel like i should be registering or soemthing asap, but i thougth we didnt do that till closer to the shower date

My MIL bought us gender neutral muslin swaddling blankets and green gingham piped hooded towels with washcloths.

I thought the muslin was a great idea for August!!

Starting next month we are going to try to start spacing out the purchases so we don't have to buy a ton at the end.

I have bought a few things of clothing on clearance, and a set of pacifiers when BRU was having a B1G1 half off sale.

i have not purchased or received a single item. oh wait, my dr. gave me some formula samples, which i literally tossed into the would be nursery. right now there are 2 litter boxes, an eliptical, a full size bed frame, a box spring, and a bag of formula in this room. i'm not even getting ready to get ready! i'm terrible, huh? now i feel guilty. maybe i'll start clearing out that room this weekend.
