O.M.G. I just accepted an offer for a new job and it's still hard for me to believe. I know people change jobs all the time but not me. I've been with this company for TEN YEARS so this is a huge change for me.
The new job is with a local healthcare organization, as opposed to an international software company where I work now. I will be working in an office instead of from home. The new job has very little travel whereas I travel quite often in my current job. I know money isn't everything but the new job is a significant pay increase, which is always nice. The day-to-day duties are very similar to what I do now. I'll be managing the training portion of a huge software rollout. (project management, instructional design, training delivery, etc) So, that gives me at least some level of comfort in the transition.
I'm in Florida all week teaching a class so I had to call my boss today and give notice. It was a hard call to make. I've known him for 10 years and he's been my boss for 5. He is a great boss and a classy guy. He was nothing but nice and genuine when I told him. I think he's honestly happy for me, even if the timing is absolutely horrible (we are very busy right now). I start the new job March 7.
The recruiter contacted me about this position almost exactly a month ago so the past month has been a blur. I've been traveling all over the place while trying to squeeze in interviews with the new company and managing my workload at my current job. I think I've put in 60-70 hour weeks for the past month doing all of these things.
In the end, I'm doing what's best for my career and my family so I'm really happy with the choice. I'm somewhat nervous and incredibly excited. I'm going to celebrate tonight with some wine and relaxation in my hotel room then Chris and I are planning to celebrate this weekend!
Re: New Job! (long)
That's wonderful, Katie! I am so happy for you! It's nice to have the new perks, new salary, and all that goes with that. I bet Roxy will miss you at home, though
Congrats!

This is true. Although I'll be close enough that I could come home at lunch sometimes. Also, with the new salary we could afford to send her to doggy daycare more often!
Thanks girls!
Congrats!! It sounds like a step in the right direction!
And I get what you're saying about being in a job for so long... I'm on year 11 at the same place, and I really don't think I could imagine changing it.
