Anyone else "one and done?"

Is anyone else thinking they're going to have this one, and be done? I'm so uncomfortable lately, tired of not being able to work, I'm just not sure I like being pregnant enough to ever do it again. I've heard we get "pregnancy amnesia" that makes us forget all the aches and exhaustions, but I'm beginning to think this little girl will be an only child! Although I'd certainly be willing to adopt in the future if we decided we want more kids.

ETA Also, I just realized that by the time I'm 40, she'll be grown up and out of the house...another point for the "1 and done" decision...lol

Re: Anyone else "one and done?"

  • We only ever planned on having one, we are very content with that.

I give MAJOR side eye to people who say "oh just wait, once you have him you won't want to stop! blah blah".  Yeah.. no.  We want one. Thanks so much.

Oh, you have so much time to decide. You can wait 10 years and still be young, by that time you will have completely forgotten this pregnancy.

My parents were 42 when they adopted me, and my mom was 49 when she delivered my little sister. It's going to be a whole different experience for me than the way I grew up, parenting with such a shortened generational gap.

  • As uncomfortable as I am and sometimes say I won't do this again I know I will. I come from a big family and so does DH. We want three or four. Its hard to think that way though. Especially since that means I'll be pregnant off and on for the next several years.

Nice to see another young May mama :) 22 here. Quite frankly, I thought the things your H said in the birthing class were hilarious, and something I could totally see mine saying. I'm sure the people at my office thought I was strange for actually laughing out loud at the hot dog comment.

  • We are one-and-done, too! that's all we want. and I was selfish and wanted my 20's all to myself. 35+ is devoted to LO Geeked
  • We always thought we wanted two, but I had a really bad pregnancy with DS, and we didn't think we would have another.  After talking to my doctor about the problems with my first pregnancy and her telling me it could be completely different with another baby, we decided to go for it.  And it has been completely different...so much easier this time!  It did take some time to "forget" all that bad stuff and make the choice to have another, but I'm happy we did. I'm not saying everyone will change their minds like I did, but I'm glad I didn't stick with one and done.

Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • We technically agreed to have two and this is our first but I'm hoping that DH will change his mind and decide this is enough. I've had a remarkably easy pregnancy overall. It's the idea of further increasing the ongoing expense, stress, and general chaos that I dread. Pregnancy-wise, there is the stress over age-related risks (I turn 40 a week before my due date). I don't know if I could handle a second bad quad screen and amnio.

Speaking of LO being out of the house by the time you're 40, my birthday is May 8 and my mother's is May 15 (also my current due date). The year (and month) that she turned 40, I turned 18. And here I am turning 40 and just giving birth instead. All within the same date range. We both find that a little trippy.

  • We were all about having 2, MAYBE 3. But after this round, DH has said "I'm not going through another pregnancy." lol Apparently he's had it rough. If we are in a financial situation to have a 2nd child, I'd like to start trying again when this LO is 18 months. But on the other hand, we may have one child and say, "this is enough for us." I'll be happy either way.

  • We did 2 years of TTC with 2 losses and some help from clomid. I can't speak for the future, but at this point in time, and for the foreseeable future, I will not be going to any great lengths to get pregnant again. If it happens, so be it, but if not I'm ok with that as well.

  • We're still deciding--at most, we'll stop at 2, because of my health stuff, etc...but unless we both have a serious change of heart AND mind a few years from now, this is it for us.

  • I've always wanted to have a lot of kids...I want 5 and DH wants 4...we'll see which one it is lol.  So far, I've really enjoyed being pregnant, and I really hope that that continues.  So, Lord willing, this little baby will have lots of brothers and sisters!

  • One and done for me!  I am 38 and DH will be 42 shortly after LO is born.  The pregnancy hasn't been easy, but not horrible either.  If we were younger and in better financial situation, it would be nice to have 2, but I'm JUST FINE with the one.

I grew up an only child and liked it just fine.  DH really wanted two, but the more time he spends with my two crazy, energetic nephews at the same time, the more he has come around to my way of thinking!

  • I wasn't sure how many children I wanted. It took till DD was 2.5YO for both of us to be emotionally ready to have another child.
After a couple of months of TTC, I knew for sure I wanted another child. Then after a year of TTC, a M/C and being diagnosed with PCOS and endo, we decided we would not do anything besides sex to conceive another child. After that I acclimated myself to the idea that DD might be an only child. Then I got PG and I knew I wanted another child without any doubt.

  • DH says we're going to keep having kids until he gets his boy. Well, we're on #2, and quite frankly, if we're on girl #5, and there's still no boy, I think I may draw the line. He comes from a big family, and I have always wanted a big family, but kids are expensive! Besides, I'm already worrying about having to go through homecoming and prom dresses for two girls!!!!
  • DH and I have always said that we want 4.  But I think with the next two we are going to wait a while.  This pregnancy has been completely different from my last.

Honestly, being a mother is the most amazing thing in the world. I love every second of it. I cannot imagine being done yet!

  • We've talking about this one being our only one.. but I think realistically we will have one or two more children.  DH is an only child, but I grew up in a large family and loved having siblings.  We'll see what time brings.

HA!!! I am 39. So Mason will be about 7 months old when I hit 40.

Anyway, I am "one and done. " My husband is 46, I am 39... we don't want to be in a nursing home when the second kid graduates from HS (well, maybe my husband... Stick out tongue)

  • Technically, I'll be 2 and done.  We won't be seeking any IF treatments after these boys, and my doctor estimates it will take about 18 months for my endometriosis to grow back to pre-surgery level.

  • I was "one and done" in the first few weeks after DS was born because he was a VERY challenging newborn. (Prior to his birth, I wanted 4 kids.) But after we got through the rough stuff and he started growing up, I realized that there was no way I couldn't go through all those "firsts" again. So here we are on baby #2. DH and I decided that we'll take each kid one at a time, but we'd still like to end up with 4.

  • We're 2, maybe 3. Working on number 1 though - I hate pregnancy, all except feeling her kick!

DH will be 23 next Wednesday, I will be 23 just before LO arrives. We want ours 2 years apart, so I'm already planning the next, will will come shortly after we actually marry (we've been waiting for him to finish school).

Always knew I wanted kids in my early 20s though, my mom had me when she was 17 and I love having a young mom - but was envious of friends with older (mentally mature) parents. So I'm hoping to be the best of both Smile

I was kinda hoping for twins for that reason.

Although it became less appealing once I finally thought about the logistics of breast feeding.
