What baby gear/products do you love? Wish you didn't register for?

Post it here to help a PAIFer out! :)

Re: What baby gear/products do you love? Wish you didn't register for?

  • Loved: Co-sleeper, ergo, medela pump wipes, those cheap three pack of simple teethers, bottle sterilizer & bags, jumperoo

Wish we didn't register for: blankets (we got far too many as it was), bottle warmer, bumbo (although i did love it, it was so short lived)

  • Loading the player...
  • I loved our jumperoo and thought that the tummy time mat that we bought was a complete waste of money.    I would also highly recommend an Ergo carrier and skip the Bjorn... it seemed to me that the useful period for the Bjorn was very short... first she was too small and then she was too heavy for my back.    The Ergo we still use with a 26 lb. 18 month old.   Hope that helps!

  • We did bare bones registering, so I don't have any regrets. Things we loved: bouncer seat, ergo carrier, ktan carrier, PNP, boppy pillow, changing table organizing bins, Play gym mat (fp rainforest), and of course our strollers and car seat. If we had the storage space, I would have registered for our jumper, but they aren't ready for that until 4-5 months. I found registering for clothes and receiving blankets to be a waste, though, because people will buy you a TON of those, regardless of what you register for. Have so much fun making your registry!!! If you ever have any questions about specific products, don't hesitate to ask!

  • I second skipping a Babu Bjorn and getting an Ergo, or something like it, instead. My LO loved facing out in the Bjorn and is not too happy when I put him in the Ergo.

I could not live without my video baby monitor. My LO wakes up quietly, the only way I know he is awake for the day is to see him moving around. FWIW, we have a Summer Best View from Target and are VERY pleased with it.

I wish I had skipped the travel system stroller. We recently got a Bob Revolution and I adore this stroller. You can get an infant car seat adapter. You will likely want an umbrella stroller at some point, but I wish i'd gotten a Bob from the get go.

The last "must have" on my list was a vibrating bouncy seat. We used the thing daily for the first six or seven months. He got the best sleep in it from three weeks until about three months. I put him in it when I showered. Its small enough that you can move it from room to room, but, if you have a really big house, lots of stairs or, you end up with twomof them, all the better, IMO!

If you are using disposable diapers, don't buy too many newborns, BUT you will likely want to stay with newborns until your LO's umbilical cord falls off. Only the newborn diapers have the notch in 'em.

Oh, another baby item we love are Halo Sleep Sacks. They make swaddlers, but I didn't "discover" how much I love Halo products until after LO was out of the swaddle phase. My 19 month old still sleeps in a sack--they make the, with feet holes for walkers.

If you have not registered yet, before you go, eat a very good and balanced meal. Registering exhausted me. Oh, and bring a snack, too! Good luck and have fun!!!

ETA: Sorry for all the auto-corrections that are, in fact, in correct, fat finger mistakes (darn iPad keyboard) and plain old mistakes. I'm too lazy to fix them, but saw a bunch after I posted. My bad! :o)

  • We registered pretty frugally, so we really used almost everything to the full extent except for maybe the Bumbo.

My favs: Bouncy seat (LIFE SAVER--I wish DS could still sit in it, LOL); Boppy (I couldn't BF but it was especially great when DS was learning to sit up on his own; Jumperoo (we didn't register for this but I wish we had); Video monitor (another thing we didn't register for but my mom got us one as a surprise); Bath pillow (we had a infant tub but DS outgrew that quickly, so we bought this later on...LOVE); Frog Pod to hold tub toys; FP Space Saver high chair (we used to take this with us for DS to sit in at restaurants before he could sit in a regular kids seat because it's so portable); PnP.

  • My favorite baby item I've found--consignment sales!  I so wish I new about them when I was getting baby gear because stuff is so much less expensive and even though it's used, baby stuff is used for so short a time, most stuff is in great shape.

PPs have covered most of the basics, but I'll add on what I still use and love with toddlers.

--Video monitor.  We didn't get one until a couple months ago and it's the best thing ever.  If I knew it would be so helpful when I had toddlers, i would have gotten one from the beginning.  We have a Lorex one from costco.com that I love!

--Aden and Anais swaddle blankets:  These were great for swaddling when DDs were little, particularly in the warmer months.  However, one DD uses them as her lovey now so they are getting a lot more use.

--Ergo carrier:  Once again, something I didn't get until DDs were about a year and I love it!  I still use it with my 25-28 lbs 2 year olds!

--Ultimate Crib sheets:  crib sheets are a pain to change.  These are much easier to deal with.

If I had to do it over again, one thing I wouldn't register for is high chairs.  They are big, bulky, and kind of a pain to clean. I would just go for something like the FP booster seats when they were able to sit up on their own.  Before that, I'd make either a bouncy or bumbo work.

  • The bouncy seat and boppy were life savers! I also LOVE the white noise baby crack machine!

Cutesy bibs and burp cloths are a big waste.
