I am getting nervous. The boys just went down for a nap and I should be vacuuming but I am jittery. They are coming to see if Gwen needs to have evals for speech(feeding/oral tone) and PT. I am not sure if I want her to qualify or not if that makes sense.
For those who have had EI come, do you know at this first apt if they will get evals, or will it be a bit?

I could have and DID write this same kind of post a few weeks ago. I was TOTALLY freaked out how/why Jake needed EI/Pt. And this was coming from a former teacher..but my only experience with EI was with my students who were speical needs..so I was totally freaking myself out.
We actually had 2 evals; one for the PT to come to the house and one for Early Steps. Early Steps is the Fla state funded program to pay for the Pt. That one was acutally yesterday and Jake didn't qualify so YEAHH..He actually scored above or average in all areas. So we are thrilled about that but also kind of annoyed cause pay for the pt out of pocket..:(
The PT eval was super easy..we have a great pt teacher who I love. We do 2 1/2 hour sessions a week. It's just "play" but we have already seen Jake make huge improvements. He is "almost" sitting on his own, his core muscles have improved so much, he is flipping and flopping all over the place. SHe also evaled him on his eating (swallowing, chewing ect) but we now REALLY have to work on him holding his own bottle. We go back to the Doc (who requested the 6 wks of pt) for the tortocolis and flat head..and then we will see what the next step is.
But again, we have had a wonderful EI experience..It wasn't at ALL what I thought it was going to be. I was making it much worse in my head!! Keep us posted on how it goes..I am sure everything will be fine..Hope this helps!
We went through sort of a long screening process.... First a phone call, then a big screening packet to fill out (about Henry's skills in all areas), then a phone interview, then a home visit to talk to me about Henry, then (today actually) the actual evaluation. Even though we were only concerned about speech they evaluated all areas. And she told me before she left that he qualified for services.
I totally get what you mean about not wanting to qualify... I feel the same. I wish he didn't b/c the fact that he does is more proof that something is wrong
But, it's for the best to get them help so they can get caught up!!
