Did anyone see the emails (perhaps only sent to consignors/volunteers) asking for volunteers to bring meals? I'm pretty sure these meals are only for the families of the two ladies who run the sale. And you can't just whip up Grandma's famous lasagna--it has to be something from a special "Kids EveryWear" recipe book, with a side item of their choosing. Perhaps I'm being over sensitive, but I find that so obnoxiously tacky.
Perhaps I'm still sensitive from when I volunteered awhile back. You want to know what my duty was? Tagging the piles and piles of items for one of the ladies who run it. You know, after I'd spent the whole previous day tagging my own stuff. I was prepared to do whatever manual labor was needed, but being asked to do her dirty work really rubbed me the wrong way. I just find the whole tone of their messages (and them in person, I've met them both) to be super self-absorbed and high & mighty.
They also have totally outgrown their clothing space. I am so not looking forward to that (I really only go for clothes at this point). Last year, it took me--I kid you not--20 minutes just to get to the checkout line, because you can't fit two people with any kind of cart/stroller side by side in their aisles, they're so narrow. It was really irritating. I was hoping maybe they'd get a separate space, and separate boys & girls clothing this year. But, nope.
Eh. I don't know. I'm probably getting my knickers twisted a bit much over a consignment sale. LOL. I'm pretty sure I'll be shopping it next weekend, but I plan to do most of my "business" with the Kid SexChange... Err, Kids Exchange....from now on. **pout** ![]()

Re: s/o Kids EveryWear sale...my rant.
Interesting. I didn't get that email. What did they want meals for, that seems really odd. I have only shopped it once, and the clothing totally overwhelmed me. I have a list ready to go for this weekend (hoping to shop on Sunday). I am looking for about 5 things and then clothes, but last time I turned around and left the clothing because I had a stroller and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get through.
That is ridiculous they had you tagging someone else's stuff, I would have said something!
Yeah, I mean I guess for these two weeks (or how ever long it is from set up to finish), the two ladies and their families are pretty much there all day (I'm pretty sure their kids are home schooled--but they're always there, "helping"). And I mean, I get that--I'm sure it's all-consuming. But they decided to undertake this (and hey--good for them, I'm sure it's been profitable), but it's their job to figure out how to feed their kids, not bribe their volunteers to do it with early shopping opportunities!
Ugh. Just rubbed me the wrong way...
Ditto, ditto, ditto. Since we're probably having another kid at some point, I really only consign enough to get an "early" shopping pass at these sales right now. But if everyone and their mom gets an early pass, why bother going through the hassle of tagging stuff if you don't really need to? I always share & pass on the pass to people, but fundamentally, that is just ridiculous.
Thankfully, I have had luck with their girl clothes (which is the only reason I'm putting up with all this BS and shopping it), but I agree that there are SO many outdated things there. Despite the "rules" they plaster all over their website, they're clearly not screening the stuff that comes in, which is very annoying as a shopper.
Sorry that y'all are having such a hard time...this might be one I skip in the future. I seriously cannot believe you had to tag their items! The only time I have volunteers tag our items is if there are untagged dropped off donations (we are a non-profit, proceeds go to our MOPS group).
Would you mind sharing the pass with me? My mom had great luck there last year shopping for J. I've never been, but she seemed to love it!
YGM :-)
Thank you!
Obviously, I wouldn't get that e-mail. But I have noticed that those in Raleigh e-mail each other shopping passes for a pre-sale and I've wondered how in the world that works. When I consign, I get one hard copy pre-sale ticket to give away and they do ask for it at the door. I think it's great they do that, but I'd be pretty irritated if everyone and their brother was at a "pre-sale" if it were only for volunteers/consignors. If I didn't consign, I would obviously want the pre-sale ticket and would ask someone I knew who was consigning to e-mail it to me but it just seems strange how they do it.
Asking for food is SO TACKY....esp that it has to come from a particular cookbook. WTH.
Yeah, at the other big sale in the area, if you consign, you get two shopping pass sitckers--one for you, and one to share. That's way more reasonable, IMO.
At the sale we're talking about, you do get to shop one day earlier if you actually consigned, but then "friends of consignors," which can be anyone--I've heard that they don't even check to make sure you have an email a lot of the time, shop the next day. But still--it is far less "exclusive," which stinks when you've put work into it. :-(
Well I just dropped off my stuff there and even though they said not to browse I did a quick scan and was NOT impressed. It was all really old stuff and I saw SNOW SUITS and fleece sleepers.
I am considering skipping even shopping there, I really don't want to waste my gas, but I did see some cute girl clothes. I am torn. I feel like boycotting after reading Hughes posts!

Hmm, well you guys definitely have some valid points with your rants. But one person's experience doesn't mean that everyone has or will have that same, exact experience. I definitely agree that letting everyone & their brother having a chance to shop early is annoying, and their meal cookbook was pretty ridiculous too!
But, I had a really good shopping experience there in the fall, I shopped the same time that Hughes did and I didn't have an issue with the line at all. It was crowded, but I didn't have a problem getting checked out. I personally found a lot of cute things last fall, and I saw some cute stuff at drop-off yesterday too, I'm really looking forward to shopping Sunday!!!! Just another .02.
I will add, in their defense, that in my experience, the actual check out time is very quick. I think I was in line less than 10 minutes on the clothing side. Getting to the checkout was my problem, because it was just too cramped in there, and I had a little cart thingy (which, so do many, if not most people). I will say that I wait in line at least twice as long, usually more, to check out at the Kids Exchange. However, navigating around that sale, with it being such a large and open area, is much easier.
And, I've always come home with plenty of good loot. I just really think they've outgrown the clothing space, and administration-wise, have become a little too big for their britches. (Yes, call me grandma. hehe)
