Babies: 3 - 6 Months

i think i might just turn into a zombie

Ever since DS got sick 4 weeks ago he has been waking up at least twice, mostly 3 times at night. He was STTN previously. When he wakes, he wants to eat 4-6 oz. I have tried to let him CIO, but I can't take it past 20 minutes. He is bundled up, so he is not cold, the sitter has increased how much she feeds him, he started solids at 4 months...I'm at a loss.

  • Sounds like four month wakeful. It will pass soon.

  • If he's eating 4-6 oz, he's legitimately hungry!  Sound like you might be in the 4-month wakeful and maybe a growth spurt.  Personally, I'd be sooo happy with only 3 night wakings!  DS has been waking every hour all night long for the last 2 months.  He's been really nice to me though the last couple nights and gave me a couple 2-3 hour stretches.

  • The dreaded wakeful.... sometimes you've just gotta wait it out.

  • Ugh, I hear ya on the zombie front. DS is on an up every 30 minutes kick right now. Yep, 30 minutes.

Have you read Ferber's book? From your OP it wasn't clear if you were checking on him at the recommended intervals or just letting him cry? The Ferber method is much different than just waiting until they get tired enough from crying to fall asleep. Maybe that's what you did, and if so, I'm sorry, just wanted to give a plug for Ferber's book if not, it has some really incredible information about sleep in general too that's super helpful!

Hope you get some rest soon!

  • I'm right there with you...misery loves company!

My LO is 4 1/2 months, and for the past month has been doing the same thing that you described.  Previously, she was STTN (9 pm-6 am) but over MLK weekend, she got sick, and since then, she's up all the time!  She goes down at 7 and sleeps until 12-1, and then after that, we're up every hour with her!  We feed her twice in the middle of the night, and she eats 4-6 ounces too!

If it's the 4-month wakeful period - how long does it last?  anything we can do?

Or...is it possible that these babies are starting to teethe?
