Mind if I ask - you said you had sudden shortening at 23 weeks?
This is my huge fear. My numbers have been great thus far (all between 4-5 cm) but I'm still nervous. I go in again Wednesday for my 22 1/2 week check. I'm so close to when trouble started last time (23 weeks).
Do you mind me asking how far and how much yours changed? I was wondering the other day how fast can things change from good to not so good...but I was almost afraid to hear the answer.
Re: bride2be.austin
hi! yes. since my cerclage at 13 weeks till 23 weeks my cervix always measured a 3ish. my 23 week u/s suddenly showed a 1.8
. we were shocked! i was put on immediate strict home bedrest at that point (7 weeks ago now). there has been A LOT of fluctuating dynamic-ness since. my last post in my blog (link in siggy) details each week to week measurement since bedrest started.
do you have a cerclage? 4-5 is GREAT. doc said i "didn't have the longest cervix" to start out with. i think at 10 weeks it prior to the cerclage it was a 3.5. what happend at 23 weeks for you last time?
ugh! Now that just sucks. It shouldn't change that fast. (Not a medical opinion, a personal opinion!!)
my msmts are 7w: 4.5 cm I think, 16w:4.1 cm, 18w: 5+ cm, 20w: 4.6 cm. I guess some of that is measurement error.
with Andrew (no cerclage or reason to suspect anything was going wrong) I think I lost my mucous plug but didn't know it. I remember having a lot of discharge and being really snotty when I wiped (sorry TMI) but it was clear so I guess I didn't think anything of it.
I also had some what I thought were Braxton Hicks but not a lot (like not more than 2 in a day). Also at the end of the 23rd week my back pain went from uncomfortable to unbearable.
At 24w0d I thought I saw a twinge of pink when I wiped, but our bathroom was dark so I thought it was my imagination and I didn't see anymore.
Then at 24w1d same thing.
Then at 24w2d it was a monday and I called my dr - and I def saw some pink - - I went in right away and by the time I got to the office (45 min drive) at 9 am, it was red.
That's when I had the exam, was 1 or so cm dilated and my water/membranes were bulging out and they rushed me to the hospital
They gave my hopes up about a cerclage, just to do another internal and find I was too far and it was too risky (breaking my water).
Tha'ts how it played out.
oh wow...we have VERY similar stories! VERY similar. last pregnancy at 17 weeks i too suddenly had a TON of clear snot like discharge. i called the doc...they checked me and she said...i was dilated to a 4 with water bulging and even a tiny foot sticking out of my cervix pushing the bag of waters out!!!! they were able to do an emergency cerclage...and then i lived in the hospital in trendelenberg for 2 weeks. until i got an infection and my water broke
(full story in blog).
i thought i saw below that you have a TAC cerclage...right? in that case...isn't there supposed to be pretty much no change in the cervix at all since the stitch is at the top?? the success rate with those are awesome (right?)...with most times no bedrest needed etc.
oh WOW! And kudos to you for calling your doctor way sooner than idiot me and getting a cerclage!!!
I was trendelenberg fro 2 weeks too - - until I delivered.
Yep, I have a TAC. I just wanted to do everything I could to avoid this happening again. And I have a toddler, so bed rest is tough. It is considered more effective and success rates are awesome :-) I hope I'm worrying for nothing!!!!!!!!!
I'll post tomorrow after my u/s!
