Cloth Diapering

Will you sell me on cloth wipes?

I keep seeing posts about them... I CD but do not CW Embarrassed

What are the pros and cons? What is your cloth wipe system? Wet? Dry? I don't have any idea.

  • Pros: you're not throwing away money and wipes every time you wipe your kid's butt. You can make your own or even cut up washcloths if you want to save $ on them. If you want to "splurge" (because they're still pretty cheap), there are some super cute patterns out there. And I tend to use fewer CWs than DWs for the same job.

Cons: You need to figure out a system if you want to use them out and about, and some people worry about mildew or yeast if they stay wet too long (I've never had a problem)

I have a couple dozen. I wet 4-6 at a time and keep them in a wipes warmer with a little bit of tea tree oil. I replenish as needed.

  • I think its easier to use cloth wipes than disposable wipes because you don't have to separate after a diaper change.  Just toss in the pail/ wetbag with the diaper and wash.  I have a spray bottle that I use that has water and Aveeno wash in it.  Shake and spray and you're good to go.  When we go out I do use disposables, mostly because I have so many but also because I haven't gotten anything to store them in yet.

  • We have the munchkin brand wipe warmer and every time I turn it on I end up with a very dry, but warm, DW. Does your wamer keep them moist? How wet do I want them?

Sorry for all the questions, for some reason transitioning to CDs was a breeze, but CWs seem like so much work!

  • I have a couple dozen CWs that I just keep in a stack in a basket on the changing table.  I have a peri bottle filled with water and a squirt of her body wash.  I just wet as I need them.  I use fewer CWs than DWs, and it's so easy to just toss everything into the diaper pail.

    Aveeno baby wash?

Yep, just a squirt.  I shake the bottle before I spray to mix it up each time.  You can also use essential oils for scents.

I use a little spray bottle instead of the peri bottle, but it works just the same.  I have on bottle for the changing table and one bottle I keep in the diaper bag.  It's so easy, definitely go for it!

  • I had a disposable wipe go through the wash...the laundry tabs on my Kawaii failed, and I had a horrible mess.

Mine has a pad in the bottom. I add water occasionally and replace it regularly.

I dunnno, as wet as you want them. I don't measure the wetness of my wipes.

I just throw my dry wipes in my bag and spray her butt with BG butt spray. Sometimes, if I remember, I'll wet the wipe in the bathroom sink and still spray.
