You were asking about napping...
Do you have your little guy on a schedule yet? I know it took me until DS was 6 months to get him on a really good schedule, then his naps improved tremendously. If you don't already have him on a schedule, maybe try that? GL!
Re: MelBee
I'm a horrible mother, but I nurse him to sleep for naps. =/ I'll take what I can get basically. I did try when we started CIO to do naps in the crib upstairs but it was really hard to do it by myself. I wouldn't even know where to begin with a nap schedule. He usually wakes up in the AM between 8 and 9 and then naps around 10:30, 12:30, 3:00 and 5:00 (different every day though...so it's hard to predict)...like I said mostly 30 minutes at a time. He naps in the boppy on the couch with me (on his side)...basically when he falls asleep nursing, I transfer him on top of the boppy next to me on the couch and then tuck his legs down into the opening. I usually just follow his cues and can tell when he starts getting tired. If he's just eaten though I will rock him to sleep and then put him in the boppy.
What's a good nap schedule for a 6 month old? I've been telling myself I really need to bite the bullet and just put him in his crib upstairs to nap.
What we did (and I had help from my SIL with 5 kids) was come up with a schedule that worked for DS and for us...here's what his was at 6 months
6:30am Wake Up/Bottle
7:00am Breakfast
8:00am Nap
10:00am Wake Up/Bottle
11:00am Lunch
1:00pm Nap
3:00pm Wake Up/Bottle
5:00pm Bottle
6:00pm Dinner
7:00pm Bath/Get Ready for Bed
8:00pm Bottle/Bed
Anything in between times was play time
I started doing most of his bottles when he woke up instead of when he went to sleep around 6 months so he wouldn't associate bottle with sleeping to help make the transition to napping easier. It tooks us about a week to get on this full time and a bit of CIO which is hard to do at first, but the results are amazing!!
I'd say sit down and think about how his days go and how you could create a schedule that works with when he goes to bed and gets up and meals and go from there. And realize when you start it, that it takes a little while to get the swing of it for both of you. GL!!!
Life at Chunky Gal
Thanks for the example. I tried putting him in his crib for a nap at 10am and he was quiet for about 30 minutes playing in the crib, then started crying a little-went in at 10 minutes...put paci and and gave him his lovie, he cried for another 15 minutes and I gave up and brought him downstairs...played for a little while and then nursed him to sleep at 11:15ish and he slept for an hour and a half!!! maybe I need to delay his naps a little?
This afternoon after a Target run he was so cranky...so I nursed him to sleep at 3 and he woke up at 3:25 =/ bummer!!
I'll just try the crib again tomorrow I guess.
woops double post.
Butting in - I also nursed Liam to sleep for the longest time! I would nurse him to sleep in the rocker in his bedroom and then lay him in his crib. It really sucked, but he just could NOT put himself to sleep and I dreaded CIO. We finally did CIO at 8 months to help him learn to put himself down. If your LO will lay happily in his crib though, you should keep trying! Maybe you could even nurse him until he's sleepy, then lay him down while he's still just a little bit awake.
I think our schedule at 6 months was more based on how many hours he'd been up than specific times. He could only stay awake 1.5-2 hours or so at the time, so I'd put him down again when that time was up.
GL!
That was kind of what I did earlier. I was nursing him in the rocker and got up (clumsily) and woke him up a little...and by the time I put him in the crib he was wide eyed awake. So I just walked out without saying a word and went into the next room and waited. He was so quiet I had to keep peeking (door was open and I forgot to turn the baby monitor on) and he was just laying there playing with his hands.
He is currently sleeping in the boppy on the couch next to me and I think we're going on two hours!!!! I have no idea why all of the sudden I'm openly complaining and for some reason he's napped well today....He only napped 25 minutes after Target, so maybe keeping him up longer is helping him be more tired and ready to nap longer. I hope tonight goes well. He only woke up once last night at 2am bc his sock fell off and he skipped his 4am feeding and I finally nursed him around 7am and he fell back asleep for 45 minutes (probably one of his naps lol).
