When should I frist try to breatfeed Lo? How simple is it going to be? How should I approach it. I really want to be successful at breastfeeding so any advice, insight, of stories on the first feeding are welcome. Thanks Ladies! : )
I know that breastfeeding is a different experience for everyone, but in my experience, the earlier the better. My nurse suggested that we try to breastfeed within minutes after LO was born. After he was all cleaned up, they swaddled him and brought him over to me. He latched right on within a few seconds, and we have had zero problems since. If you mention to your nurses that you would like to try as soon as possible, they should make sure you have someone there to help you and guide you through it. I know it is not always this easy, but I do think the sooner you start, the better.

As soon a you are able, you should be able too within an hour of delivering the baby. Let the nurses help you the first couple times until you get the hang of it. Good luck
DD(9)DD(5.5)DS(3)DS(born 2/1/11) July 2006, lost a baby at 8 weeks, natural miscarriage , May 2009 lost Zoe Eliana at 17 weeks no reason known, possible under developed organs. Lost two more babies in September 2009 at 7 wks 4 days. Had myomectomy surgery to remove a large fibroid in November 2009.
However, if that doesn't happen do not stress out about it. I wasn't able to BF my LO until he was 7 hours old and was syringe fed formula but he is BFing now(although I do give him bm via bottle also).
I took a breastfeeding class a few weeks ago and it was really helpful. One tip they gave us was to wait until LO opens his mouth wide, and then bring him quickly to your breast (don't bring your breast down to him). They will naturally open their mouth wide when they can see your nipple--that's why your areola gets bigger during pregnancy, so LO can see it better. They said LO's mouth should be open to at least 140 degree angle (which is really wide open, like a yawn), and then you should put him on your breast. One mistake that new moms make is to only have them latch onto the nipple, which is painful. LO should have his mouth around your whole areola. And LO's cheeks shouldn't pucker or dimple while sucking, that means they don't have a proper latch.
Good luck, BFing is one of the best things you can do for your LO!! I hope it is easy for you!!
