Eating Crap... Feeling Guilty?

Hey Ladies!

I was just wondering if anyone else can't stomach decent food.... All I can eat these days is bread, pasta... with no sauce, cereal, soup, plain plain plain!!!! Looking at chicken or vegetables makes me want to gag!!! I feel so bad that all I'm feeding my baby is crap!!! Well I guess I manage a lot of fruit but still thats just full of sugar.... any suggestions?

Re: Eating Crap... Feeling Guilty?

  • In addition to all of the carby food that I keep eating, I also just want candy all. the. time.  I've hardly even looked at a vegetable for the past month or so.

While I feel sort of guilty about it (mostly because I usually eat pretty balanced meals, and I used to love veggies), I just keep reminding myself that I will make up for it when I'm feeling better, and at least I'm eating something that will stay in my belly for now.

  • Apparently fruit is better than nothing. I also can't stomach even the thought of vegetables. I mentioned my concern to both my OB and my perinatal dr and they both told me to eat what I can and catch up in the second trimester.

  • Honestly, I've said it before, first tri is all about survival. You eat what you can when you can and do your best to take your prenatal vitamins. The baby will get what it needs, and as you start to feel better you will probably be able to stomach more healthy foods. Just eat the healthiest of the foods you can stomach right now, but don't feel guilty for eating what will go down/stay down. I will admit to surviving mostly on goldfish crackers and PB&J on toast during first tri with my daughter. This time around all I want is pizza and frozen burritos.

  • I've only been eating crap--yesterday my breakfast was a donut!  Then I felt really guilty and made a fabulous big salad for dinner last night: chicken, spinach, peas, corn, tomatoes, craisins, northen beans, pasturized goat cheese and I wound up with a crazy bad stomach ache.  I will not be eating a big salad for dinner anytime again soon--back to crap!

  • Oh man.  I also haven't been eating as well as I could, however, I am working really hard to eat as much veg and fruit as I can----every morning I drink one of those little OJs in the little carton because I can just chuck it in my bag when I walk out the door.  Lunch is harder, since we get lunch at work (I'm a teacher), but I make sure I have a small heap of some kind of veg.  However, I too have totally been prey to candy especially----I just crave it!

I may or may not have a secret stash of mango licorice and sour patch kids in my car.

  • Someone mentioned eating Nerds yesterday, and I cannot stop thinking about Nerds.

I stopped at Walgreens last night to pick up a few items, and all they had was the big box of Nerds that are mixed.  I like the small box that has seperate compartments for each flavor of Nerds. I didn't go by a gas station because all I had was a credit card and felt a little embarrassed (and desperate) to charge candy that costs less than a $1.  I will get some Nerds today!

  • The only veggies I want are carrots and potatoes.  I don't like wheat bread right now, only white.  I'm all about the sweets.  And I'm eating nonstop.  So I'm right there with you.  I agree - it's all about survival!

  • I am SO there. I can't eat any meat or vegetables. Unfortunately carbs don't sound good either. I have been surviving on cereal, fruit, yogurt, black bean soup, cheese sticks, cottage cheese, fiber one bars, and tums. I figure as long as we are taking PNV's and get through these last few weeks everything will be ok.

The baby is taking from us what it needs whether we are eating the food or it is taking it from stored sources. Don't worry.
