Anterior placenta?

I found out this morning that I have an anterior placenta which explains why I still haven't felt the baby moving. I was so relieved to find out there was a reason I hadn't really felt him!! Anyone else have an anterior placenta? When did you feel baby move?

Re: Anterior placenta?

  • Yes, I did. I started feeling him around 27-28 weeks. I was so disappointed at first, but now I consider it a blessing. He was plenty active later on...a little too much...always having a party in Mommy's belly!

  • Aw, so I guess I'll have to wait another few weeks! Were you able to feel kicks from the outside eventually too?

  • It was right around 25-26 weeks for me...so really soon for you hopefully!

I thought it was just because I was fat. I didn't find out I had an anterior placenta until 36 weeks when I went into PTL, found out she was breech and told I couldn't get an external version for that reason.

Also H couldn't feel her kicks (even though they were strong to me) until 33 or so weeks, so don't get discouraged over that.

  • 25-26 weeks is close! That would be awesome! DH will be disappointed if he can't feel anything until much later, but time is flying by lately, so maybe that will help :)

  • It definitely flies. somehow I have a 3 month old!?!?! I barely remember being pregnant and that was the majority of 2010. It's so strange how it's here and gone in the blink of an eye.

Just do everything you ever wanted to do in the next month or so, go out to every restaurant, take spontaneous day trips, sleep in on the weekend. Believe me!

  • I felt Olivia at 23 weeks.  I felt kicks but only saw what I describe as rolling from one side to the other! enjoy!
  • The other thing to keep in mind with an anterior placenta is that sometimes in labor it can be trickier to pick up a great read on the babies heart rate.  That is nothing to worry about it just means they have to listen "through" the placenta which is added padding! But now at least you know and can pay attention in a new way for baby's movements!  Enjoy!
