dh/dc making gifts 4 u ( POLL )

When it comes to Valentine's Day, dh's birthday, father's day , christmas etc I ALWAYS have Cam hand make him a card or pottery with handprints, or a painted picture frame or something.

Dh has NEVER had Cam make me anything and I'm getting kinda bitter.  Cam made me his own Birthday card this year and it was the cutest thing ever. He just folded and glued a piece of paper over and over, but i loved it and kept it.

Soooo................

  • I picked other. He will do a 'craft' if i put it out for him. I think it's mostly b/c H is so young still, but if I _want_ something made for me, I'll have to tell him to do so.

I think it'll change when H can say, "I want to make mama a card"

  • I said yes, but really its only happened once. For Christmas we made handprint ornaments for all the grandma's and great grandmas. SO and DS made one for me, which I love. However, I know for a fact that had he not helped me make the ones for grandma's, he wouldn't have ever thought about it on his own. I think the fact that I loved how they turned out so much, he figured he could manage one on his own with DS (he is fairly crafty for a guy to start with). Do I think he will do it for all the holidays and birthdays like I would? nope. probably won't get anything else handmade from DS til he's old enough to do it himself.

  • DH has never done something like that even though I have told him 9,000 times it is all I ever want.  He doesn't ever crayon or craft with her, so I guess he doesn't even think he would be capable (lame).  Thankfully, DD's babysitter is the opposite, so I have gotten a few handmade cards that way.

  • I never have the kids make crafts for DH because they're in school, and honestly, they both bring home more crafts than we know what to do with. That, and I'm really not crafty enough to have them make a craft with me!

However, I am big on birthday cakes and we started that tradition this year.  I straight up told DH I wanted this from the kids and purchased most of the supplies for them.  While I was out, he supervised the baking and the decorating on the cake.  My birthday was first, so for DH's birthday, I also had the kids make and decorate a cake for DH.

  • I voted yes because DH and DS will return from Saturday preschool with something for me from time to time. But he has never outside of school sat down with DS and made me something.
  • DH doesnt do it, but my MIL does it. And now that Lexi is in school, she brings stuff all the time

  • It is totally my favorite gift and my DH KNOWS it. He is also an artist, so duh, if I didn't get homemade stuff, I'd be super bitter. ;)  I usually think up the stuff I want and do it, but for birthdays, and valentines day, DH always gets a card for me from DS, and helps him sign it or traces his hand.

For Xmas, I got the best gift ever.  DS and DH were running errands one day.  DS spied the paint your own pottery store and asked to go in.  DH helped him pick out two things to paint and they painted them for me.  I had absolutely NO idea until I opened them on Xmas morning.  One is a Rudolph mug (that resembles poop LOL) and the other is, no surprise, a hockey themed piggy bank.  DH says it was the most ridiculously priced mug ever but I LOVE it.

  • P is only a year old, so I haven't done much 'crafts' with him.  But either way, I could totally see myself making something with P for DH, but I definitely wouldn't expect DH to do the same with DS  -  I am the 'crafty one' and love doing that stuff, DH just kinda tolerates all my crafting crap everywhere --  hopefully P will want to make something for me on his own, or do it at school or whatever in a few years...  DH got me extra flowers on Sunday - 'from P' so I'm gonna take what I can get!!!!!!

  • I picked more than for me, but really I'd say we're more even.  I just had to give DH more props than simply a few.  In addition every other weekend he takes the boys to Building Day at Lowes and they do some sort of building project.  Then our Home Depot also has a childrens' program but it's only once a month.  For Vday, home depot did heart shaped shelves and Lowes did music boxes with a heart top.  In addition to those gifts, DH always has the boys "sign" a card for me.  He used to buy a separate card from the boys and really went all out making sure it expressed what he thinks they feelSmile, but really cards are pretty pricey so now he just writes something out "from them" about how I take such good care of them ect and then he writes something out from him.
