Round ligament pain at 23 weeks?

It's right by my ovary area above my pubic bone almost by the crease and much worse than the RLP I noticed at around 12 weeks. I had to do lots of Googling to convince myself that it is possible at 23 weeks. Seems common. Anyone else having RLP now?

Re: Round ligament pain at 23 weeks?

  • You can experience RLP at any time throughout your pregnancy. I was taught that it's more common as your uterus gets larger, like third trimester, but I started noticing it at the beginning of my second trimester.

  • I started having it really bad at 20 weeks. I was concerned about it, but when I described it to my doctor she said I described it perfectly. I guess it can be expected to get worse as we get bigger.

curious. How would you describe it?

  • I have had it since 18 weeks with this pregnancy. I didn't think it was possible so early either until I googled. Some sites suggest warm bath, drink extra water and sleep with a pillow between your knees when you sleep on your side. HTH!
  • I had RLP early on and then nothing till end of 22 weeks. Now, if I change position to fast, cough or sneeze, ouch!!!  Right where you describe. Started on the left, now both sides for me.

Well, the location is a dead giveaway, but the first time it happened, it was like I couldn't stand up straight because of a charlie horse/cramp sensation at the site of the round ligament on each side. Now when I feel it, it's just like a sore spot, usually on one side.

the reason why I ask is because at 12 weeks it was pretty dull and achey. Now, it's much more noticeable. Sometimes sharp but yes, a pulling.

  • Mine starts off to one side of the belly button and extends to the pelvic bone. It is a really sharp pain. When it is really bad it extends all the way to the underside of my body and feels like it extends into the labia. It can be a very small pain, like a spot at the pelvic bone or on the side of my belly button, or can extend from my belly button to pelvic bone and beyond.
  • Definitely think I had this saturday night. We went to long horns and sat down to wait. I had pain that started in my right hip and when I sat it shot across my lower belly to my other side. It lasted for almost a minute and I was uncomfortable and the wait was over an hour so we left. Went to bugaboo creek instead. By the time we got there I was fine.

  • I describe mine as being shocked. I know that most of us don't make a habit of getting electrocuted (hope not), but I'm sure most of you have at some point gotten a little jolt when plugging something in.. that is the only way I can describe the pain. I get it across my belly, in my crotch and down my backside.. Once I got it down my rear I figured out it was just like my sciatica and I knew it was RLP.

I do not get it often, but it does NOT feel good. :( I am sorry you girls are experiencing not so fun growth pains! :(:(

I've had the same experience.  In fact, it's been hurting a little more on the left side this week and has me concerned.  It's in the same spot you described and it's like a dull ache with a a little shooting pain here and there.

  • Yah I still get them. They aren't as often as I used to get them but it certainly is still as sharp and painful as before!

  • Oh yes!!! It seems like it started earlier this time around for me and hurts alot more as well. Mine in only on my left side, pretty much under my gut and near my hip bone and it really hurts sometimes :(

Mines been only on the left so far, but I am sire I will get it on the right eventually.

  • Mine was mostly on one side or the other around the ovary area, for lack of a better description, early in the second tri.  This past week or two I've been getting what I think is probably also RLP, but it's over my whole bladder area under my bump.  And it gets sore when my bladder is really full.  I'm not sure, that may not be RLP, but I'm going to ask at my doc appt on Friday.

  • I got it early on too...my dr. didnt believe it was RLP that early but I still believe it was. Now at 23 weeks it has started to flare up again, and on both sides instead of just the lower right side. I would describe it the same as the other ladies, like a sharp pulling/charlie horse pain that lasts about a min or less. I get them most if I move too quickly from one side to the other or stand up too fast. They can be pretty painful but only last a short while so I am not overly concerned.
