I understand to get non-scented, heavy/light ect.
How long did you 2x+ moms use pads for after giving birth? Also, for those who BF, did your period just not come or came for a bit then went away?
I use a divacup and am thinking of using lunapads while I heal, but don't know if it would be cost effective.
Thanks
Re: Q about postpartum pad usage
You'll see the difference between the Luna Pad and the giant pads they'll start you out with in the hospital. They are huge, and you'll use them for a couple of weeks, then you could probably switch once the flow lightens enough.
I swear, you could smuggle an entire cup of coffee into one of those giant pads.
Would the Luna Pads not be thick enough?
The pads you get at the hospital are like depends they are so big! LOL I personally didn't use them because I like the ones with wings. But you will definitely need to get extra heavy pads. I bled for about 4 weeks and then didn't get my period until I stopped nursing which was about 3 months after the initial 4 week bleed stopped.
I really don't think so.
I used to work for an all natural and homeopathic retailer and remember Luna Pads (big ups for being a user, too...I could never do it) as being about the same absorbancy as a regular pad, right?
You'll be changing them every fifteen minutes if you use them for those first few days/weeks. There can be gushes that would put Niagra to shame when you go from laying down to standing up...stop you in your tracks,
moments, and I don't think a Luna would be able to accommodate
I love the cup but haven't really used the pads (I have one of their liners in today though for my cyst remnants).
HAHAHA!! I love the Niagara analogy - I guess I will try to find some in the store that aren't like diapers
Thanks ladies!!
I used pads for a few weeks and then pantyliners for a few more. You should expect a pretty heavy flow for 2 weeks or so.
After the postpartum bleeding, I didn't get a period until my baby was 6 months. My periods were very erratic while I was breastfeeding a lot, and I also had lots of random spotting in between periods. But my periods themselves were very short and light--I didn't even need pads or tampons, just pantyliners for a few days.
ETA I don't know anything about Luna pads but my hospital sent me home with a bunch of giant maternity pads. Those got me through until I could use regular maxi pads. I don't think I used the big maternity pads for that long so I'm glad I didn't buy any ahead of time.
Haha! I totally thought about this a while back but figured depends would look bulky like diapers
Well it will be warm out so if we stick to sun dresses you might not be able to see...LOL
I use cloth pads during post-partum. I highly recommend them. Homestead Emporium is my favorite place to get them.
I use the Ultimax in rotation for the first several weeks and then I moved to some of the lighter ones she offers.
I don't do store bought pads. I'm a Moon Cup user myself and I just hate them. This worked out really well for me last time.
I bled heavily for about 2 weeks after delivery and then spotted for another 2-3 weeks. I didn't even finish an entire pack of pads that I had bought since the hospital sent me home with so many.
My first pp period did not come until I had fully weaned, so around 7 months.
I didn't bleed much. I had a c/s and breastfed. I think I used pads for 2 weeks tops and I didn't even need the maxi heavy duty pads.
It's just gonna depend on your body.

I love my Diva Cup, but I hated the cloth pads I tried. They weren't very absorbent, and they let the wet sit on my skin, which is really gross. As much as I don't like buying disposable pads and haven't in over 8 years, I got myself a pack of the Always Infinity Overnights. I don't think I'll regret it.
If you're not planning to stick with cloth pads, it would be fairly expensive to get them just for post-partum. Unless you're planning a lot of kids, I guess.

Have you tried the Always Infinity pads? I had to use pads after I had my LEEP done, and if I had to pick a favorite pad, those would be it. They're not bulky at all. Nice and thin. I am going to use the overnights for the first few weeks, then switch to regulars after the flow slows down.

I unfortunately had to become a pad connoseur after my MC in June and found the Always Infinity to be the best by far. No Dry Max (always a plus!) and they were far more absorbent than the regular Always ones.
For PP-I used the super-long, most absorbent for the 1st 2 week, then switched to regular for another week and then pantyliners for another week or 2 after that, more for peace of mind than anything else. My bleeding was pretty much gone after the 3rd week.
I'm also going to bring my own pads to the hospital. They had the nice, wide, bum covering ones in L&D but just the huge, thick, long ones in PP. The extra thickness was really uncomfortable. I'd kill to have a stash of the bigger, thinner, wide ones from L&D, which some hospitals have the entire time.
Additional side note-take as many of the throwaway mesh panties home with you as you can get your hands on!!!!! I think I left with a dozen pairs and they're heaven when you're in your bloated, uncomfortable, post-delivery glory.

Great! I'll be trying those Always Infinity Pads then!
But CRAP I just remembered - pads means underwear - DAMNIT! I guess I should go buy some black panties while I'm at it? Ugh
