Anyone not doing V-Day?

My husband and I stopped doing Valentine?s Day and thought it seems a little sad it saves us money.  :)  I decided that we should save our money (especially since our anniversary is next month) because I?m still recovering from Christmas!

 Anyone else skip V-Day?

We've never celebrated it. Honestly, it doesn't bother me - I think as far as holidays go, it's pretty overrated. I don't like chocolate and would rather have roses as a surprise on some other day vs expecting them on one particular day. And I HATE going out to dinner on V-Day - it's always so crowded! - and would rather have a nice night out some other time. *shrug* Maybe I'm just not romantic enough lol!

Ditto. Prices go up for EVERYTHING! Plus, I don't want a pre-fixe menu at an inflated price Stick out tongue My birthday is 2 days before so we just celebrate that instead Big Smile (and I think it's a waste of money to go out to 2 fancy dinners in a span of 3 nights)

  • Thank goodness I?m not alone!

I used to spend so much on my hubby for v-day, it was a little crazy.  :)  And you?re right about the cost of flowers, everything is inflated.  But I do miss randomly getting flowers, but I can?t complain b/c I used to tell DH to save $ b/c cut flowers die.  Every once in a while I?ll go to the wholesaler and buy myself tulips and use a vase I have @ home.  :)

     *Happy Belated Birthday!*

  • Haha, same here! Though sometimes I *secretly* wish he would just... because I'm dumb. Haha. But he's usually good about random days, and those are so much more surprising and cute Smile

     And thank you!!

  • MH left for NY yesterday, i'm still visiting family in TX, so yeah, no V-day for us either, but we don't celebrate it anyway.  I don't like how commercial and forced it is.  He did write me a really sweet email this morning though Smile

  • That?s sweet.  It?s the smaller things that are the big deal to me.  :)  Like random calls to say "i love you" or sweet e-mails.

I totally agree. Smile I know it's probably a little lame, but I love it when I get a random email or even a text message just to say "I love you." Totally beats out anything else for me!

  • Sorta...we never actually do anything on Valentine's Day. Usually because one or both of us has to work...we did exchange cards and will go to dinner tomorrow. Since we've gotten our pug Regina we celebrate her birthday instead (she was born on 02.14.04)!
  • We usually just buy or make each other cards, but that's it.  He did surprise me this year, though, with some perfume I love never buy for myself.  That was a sweet surprise!

  • I love valentine's day maybe b/c i'm a hopeless romantic like that :) but we haven't really celebrated in about 3 years just because we got married 2 days after v-day so we tend to celebrate that instead. we do exchange cards and he'll buy me a single rose or a plant and I usually buy him clothes. this year we upgraded to iphone4s so that is our gift to each other :)
  • We don't do VDay. I just don't get all the hype about it. I'm so glad it's over because I feel like the stores etc have been so "in your face" with it. I wonder if this is how Jewish folks feel about Christmas?

    LOL good question!

  • yeah we don't really celebrate it, either.  I don't think that's really sad... but I feel like it is kind of sad that we don't even do anniv. gifts anymore. we usually go out to dinner to celebrate but we don't do gifts anymore.  I guess most of the reason is b/c we're so frugal :P

btw - I'm glad to see that you are hanging out here and posting w/us even though you're not a mommy :) i think that's great!

  • It's all about early learning for me!  :)  Haha.  I'm counting down the days (literally) 'til it's time to TTC.  :)
