I'm considering taking a breastfeeding class before LO arrives. I really know zilch about BFing and my mom is no help since I was formula-fed. I find I learn better in a class environment rather than from books. I saw INOVA offers some classes but I wanted to see if DC bumpies had some other recommendations. I don't want to spend too much money and I'd prefer just a one day class since I don't have a lot of time right now. I'm in Alexandria.
Re: Breastfeeding class recs?
Check out the Washington Breastfeeding Center on K Street. I have heard great things about it.
I signed up for a class there, but it was actually the same day that LO was born early, so I didn't get to go. I plan to go there for their Return to Work class before I go back to work in April.

I took one at Holy Cross and it was very helpful. It was just a morning, but we learned about holds, latching, how to tell if they're getting enough, etc.
Wherever you end up going, I would recommend having your husband come. IT helped him to see that it wasn't just an easy, natural process for everyone (and it wasn't for me at first!) and just got him on board with it and how important it was for me.

All of this. Esp. having your DH go. I needed some extra brain power remembering everything after minimal sleep and going through labor. He also came with me to the LC appts afterwards for the same reason.
you should also have a name and ph # of an LC you can call when you 1st get home from the hospital, those first few days are so hard
FWIW, both I and my sister were eBFed but it was over 30yrs ago so my Mom wasn't much help
I'm delivering at Inova Alexandria. They have lactation consultants on staff there and I know they come in and help you get started with the basics while I'm in the hospital. Has anyone had any experience with the LCs there? Were they really helpful?
