DD has such a horrible cold that she threw up snot today at daycare (sorry if that's TMI). She is having such a hard time breathing. We have her humidifier going constantly and try to use the booger sucker, but she hates it.
I have baby Vicks, but I swear there was some sort of controversy with Vicks on here back when I was on 0-3 or 3-6.
Anyone use Vicks on your LO's chest or feet?
Re: Do you use Baby Vicks?
yes, we use it! slather on feet, and a little bit on chest and back...i use baby vicks though not regular.
Also, have you tried Benadryl? You may want to ask your pedi...ours ok'd it for when LO has severe congestion..and it helps to dry him out for sure!
Good idea on the Benadryl. I'll call her pedi tomorrow. Thanks!
I've been googling it trying to remember what the heck it was. I think I found it. Vicks wasn't recommended for babies under 6 months because it contains camphor. That must be why I remembered it being such a big deal back in the 0-6 months.
Our pedi knows we use baby vicks (since about 6 or 7 months old) and didn't seem to have a problem with it. I put it on her chest then zip her into some pajamas.
As for the controversy: Maybe it was the regular vicks vs. baby vicks?....I don't recall seeing much of anything on the baby vicks ingredient list...
Benadryl: LO is allowed 1/4 to 3/4 teaspoon for bad congestion at bedtime only. Pedi would rather she be miserable but getting the congestion out during the daytime. For very bad nights I did 1/4 teaspoon every 3-4 hours so that it lasted all the way through the night. Pedi said this was fine to stagger but not to exceed 3/4 teaspoon over the whole night. Three 1/4 teaspoons lasted 9-12 hours vs. 4-6 hours when given all at once.
Are you also trying to use saline? It's impossible for me to suck out LOs boogers now but I've managed to get her to lie reasonably still (as opposed to kicking and screaming) while I cover her eyes and spray saline mist up her nose. It seems to help thin things out so as not to upset the tummy so much.

My other baby is still a baby! Baby Boy 11-30-11
I was going to get the Baby Vicks for DD but after reading the label there is no actual medicine in it. It believe it is just the smells that are supposed to soothe the baby.
Regular Vicks isn't recommended for kids under 2 or 3 though, so that might be where the controversy was.
