Many of you are new to Frugal Living NW and haven?t been following how we?ve all been scoring on diapers at Amazon for the last couple of months. Here?s how you can get 50% off your favorite brand of diapers:
First, you need to get your hands on an Amazon diaper coupon. These coupons have been showing up in several different parenting-type magazines and gets you 20% off one package/box of diapers. It looks like this (the color varies from month to month and from magazine to magazine):
Some people have been able to find a $10 off $10 Amazon diaper purchase as well. It looks like this:
Here are the magazines that these coupons have been found in over the past three or four months:
I suggest you start by trying to get these coupons for free in waiting rooms (doctor?s offices, hair salons, etc), your public library and coffee shops. I found two coupons in the salon while getting my hair done last Friday.
If you can?t find one for free and you want the coupon right now, you?ll have to move to the store and actually buy a magazine. Walmart & WinCo offer percentage discounts on magazine purchases, so I suggest you start there. I haven?t had much luck finding these particular magazines at Walmart, though. Your best bet is going to be Borders and Barnes & Noble where they have an extensive selection of magazines. I?ve also had luck at Fred Meyer.
Be careful to weigh the cost of buying the magazine against the discount you?ll receive. On average, the 20% off coupon will get you a discount of around $6.30.
I know this goes without saying for most of us, but tearing the codes out of magazines for sale in the store or writing the code down and leaving the paper in the magazine IS STEALING.
Perhaps the best way to ensure that you receive coupons in upcoming months is to subscribe to one or more of the magazines. Luckily for us, there are a handful of great deals available right now:
:: Get a FREE one-year subscription to BabyTalk by registering here (scroll down, click the BabyTalk box and then fill out the form at the bottom)
:: Get a FREE subscription to American Baby by registering here (your baby?s birth date must be within one year from the date of registration)
:: Get a one-year subscription to Parents for $1 here
:: Stop by Babies ? R Us ? they usually have American Baby and/or BabyTalk available for free at the registry table (Thanks, Wakisha!)
I?m not able to find a good subscription deal to Fit Pregnancy or Parenting: Early Years right now. There was a fantastic deal on Parenting: Early Years a couple of weeks ago, so I imagine Tanga will come through again very soon. Just be ready to jump on any deal I post.
You could also use one of the recent daily deal site magazine subscription deals to get one of these subscriptions at a steep discount. For instance, DealPulp offered a $20 voucher for magazine subscriptions to DiscountMags.com for $3 on Thursday. Parenting: Early Years is priced at $9.97 and Fit Pregnancy for $14.97. For about $8 ($3 to DealPulp and $5 to DiscountMags.com), you could have these two magazines covered for the year.
IMPORTANT: Each month?s coupons are coded so that each Amazon account will accept only one. So if you have 2 codes released in a January magazine, your Amazon account will only allow you to use one. You?ll have to redeem the other in your spouse?s or mom?s account.
Second, you?ll want to make sure you?re a member of Amazon Mom, which gives you a 30% discount when you sign up for the Subscribe & Save option + FREE two-day shipping on select baby products, including every type of diaper under the sun.
Here?s how the deal pencils out when you combine the 20% off Amazon diaper code and the Amazon Mom 30% off option:
Huggies Snug & Dry Diapers, Size 3 (156 ct) currently priced at $31.91
Save 15% as a member of Amazon Mom + 15% for choosing the Subscribe & Save option (-$9.58)
Save 20% with the magazine coupon code (-$6.39)
Pay $15.96 = 10.2 cents per size 3 diaper
This is less than $4 per jumbo pack ? definitely a stock-up price! Cheaper than Huggies at Costco and even Target brand diapers!
Make sure the diapers you are purchasing has the ?Subscribe & Save? box on the side (right under the ?Add to Cart? box) and has the Amazon Mom explanation box that looks like this:
In my experience, a baby/toddler goes through one jumbo packs of diapers a week. If you are able to score one discount code a month and purchase a box with the equivalent of 4 jumbo packs, you?ll never have to do a diaper deal in the store again!
Plus, if you use the $20 Amazon Gift Card from Thursday?s Living Social deal (this deal is no longer available), you?ll get your first month?s worth of diaper for FREE! That will buy you a bit of time to start earning Amazon Gift Cards by searching the internet with Swagbucks (that?s how I get free diapers, baby!)!
