We are having a small train themed bday party for X on Saturday and I'm looking for some simple home made decorating ideas. I already got a banner and cup cake wrappers from Etsy. I'm also going to do big pom poms hanging from the ceiling made out of tissue paper. Any creative ideas for a center piece for the food table? Any other suggestions? I know we have a lot of crafty mom's on this board and I'm certainly not one of them when it comes to party decorating.
Re: Party Decorating Ideas?
I made these candy trains as Christmas gifts one year: https://www.ehow.com/how_4724650_candy-train-party-favor-craft.html
It's fairly simple, although I'm not sure if you want that much sugar within arm's reach. And I found this more elaborate candy train: https://www.ehow.com/way_5210474_lifesavers-candy-train-crafts.html
You could also just gather some small square boxes, wrap them in paper and put round circles on them to be a train and put in some of X's favorite things. Take the lid off some of them (like an open car), keep some of them closed (like a regular card). Make the last one red for the caboose and put an even smaller box on the first car towards the back of the car and put a picture of X in a "window" as the conductor. Then in the front wrap together a few empty papertowel/toilet paper/wrapping paper rolls with tissue paper coming out of the top as a smoke stack. Then you can use aluminum foil wrapped ones in teh front as the silver guard.
You could arrange and decorate the cupcakes to look like a train. Either just the engine or an engine and then with each cupcake as a separate "car" with different types of cargo.
Not sure how old the kids are, but you could play red light/green light.
If you're going to have a lot of little ones, you could create a train out of boxes for them to ride(walk)/play in. Get your DS a hat to be the driver.
Have a "train station" where people will eat with a sign saying DS's Station. You could do this with colored butcher paper.
ETA: You could also have train tracks throughout your house or at least on the walk up to your house. It would be pretty easy to do with black or brown crepe paper (indoors - outdoors, I would go with something sturdier given the wind).
The candy trains are really cute! You could also make up some kind of signage that you would see along railrods like the crossing signs. I know disney has coloring pages of the chuggington group of trains for things for the kids to do (or you could color them and use them as decoration).
