Baby furniture- when to order?

If you are ordering baby furniture, how far ahead will you do so? We have found a set that we really like (Legendary by Baby's Dream) and a store where we live is currently running a special deal if you order the crib and double dresser together. I'm only 14 weeks though- is that too early? When will/did you order yours, and how far ahead of baby's due date should everything be assembled and in place?

Re: Baby furniture- when to order?

  • I'm going to do it as soon as we find out the sex.  I'm a planner and want to have stuff done.  Plus, I have a couple friends who had stuff on back order and didn't get it until after the baby was born which would suck.

  • I already ordered mine. Crib, dresser and bookshelf. Could not help myself. I have the crib and need to put together. The rest is in transit.
  • With DS, we bought a house when I was 6 months pregnant and moved in 2-3 weeks before I was due, so we did everything last minute.  My friend is 2 months ahead of me now and she had her son's room ready within a week or two of finding out she was having a boy.  This time around, since we have to transition DS to a new bed, I'm planning on having everything done by the beginning of the summer.
  • I'm ordering mine as soon as our tax return gets in on the 22nd :)

  • We ordered ours early with DS.  We are using the same furniture for LO.  I would say ordered the furniture whenever you want to, when its on sale, and when you have the money!!

  • I really want to try and not spend a ton of money all at once, so we'll order things as they go on sale and spend a little at a time. I think once you've had a few visits and know things are going well, you should order the things you've decided on. No sense in waiting and making yourself crazy hoping it shows up in time. Knowing my luck, I'll wait and something will go on backorder.

  • I just ordered mine this past weekend. The crib, dresser and glider take 8-12 weeks to arrive so that will bring me to the beginning of May. My first shower is the middle of May. I think it's perfectly fine to order furniture.
  • We ordered ours last weekend. It was also Babys dreams and was from a local boutique store. It was listed at 50% of the normal price and I had to jump. They are keeping it in layaway for us until May when we want to pick it up. So we can now make payments and not have to worry about finding space in the house until the room is painted and carpets are cleaned!

I think everyone works on their own timeline, whatever feels right to you!

  • I'm waiting until we find out the sex. I will still most likely get a set that is gender neutral, but I may change my mind if we find out it's a girl.

  • I'm waiting on everything until we know baby's gender.  I know then that I will go crazy off the wall and buy everything I see -- as long as it's cute of course!
