Hospital bag?

I have everything ready for the baby but I don't know what I am going to need. I feel like I am leaving something out.

I have underwear, kotex, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, ponytail holders, chapstick, nursing tank, yoga/sweatpants, t-shirt, and hoodie.

I have to add a change of clothes for DH, some snacks and the camera and charges.

What else am I missing?

Re: Hospital bag?

  • I brought my hair dryer and flat iron. (Yes, a flat iron because I was there Tuesday thru Friday and didn't want crazy hair the whole time, lol.) Make-up. Clothes and a blanket for baby. Gum.

I didn't go too crazy this time at the hospital bc my H was back and forth. (I stayed by myself at nights.) He brought me any random extras but truth be told I really didn't need much!

  • These are some things I was happy to have with me. There are other things that some girls swore by that didn't matter as much to me. I was admitted overnight for monitoring 2 weeks before I ended up getting induced. Having that "trial run" gave me a different perspective than I would have had otherwise.

ipod/mp3 player? Even though I had a private room and it was so quiet, it really helped me sleep at night or nap during the day. I also LOVED that when I was finally allowed to take a shower, I had my own body wash and body lotion. I also brought my own hairdryer and mousse/hairspray (I have curly hair) to use.

I also suggest buying some soft slipper socks. My mom had bought be a couple pairs that look like little mary janes that were PERFECT for the hospital. I had brought my own regular slippers, but everytime a nurse came in for vitals/check my incision, they somehow ended up under the bed. I just wore the slipper socks in bed and then didn't have to dig around for my regular slippers.

Body pillow I wasn't sure about taking my boppy total body pillow at first, but I'm so happy I did! I didn't have it in bed with me once they broke my water, but it was so much easier after the c/s to use it to get comfy than to try to organize a million pillows (which would end up on the floor- yuck) on the bed to prop myself up. It was also awesome for BFing.

Scented hand soap I knew from when I had gotten admitted the first time (pre-e) that I couldn't stand the smell of the antibacterial soap they had in the bathroom. I took along a thing of bath and body works antibacterial soap. I loved it and so did the nurses.

Hard candy, mints, gum, flavor packets for water bottles once they don't let you eat anything but ice chips and popsicles, these kept me from losing my mind. I wouldn't have thought of it, but my mom just happened to have all of the above in her purse and the nurse was okay with me having them.

  • I brought an old pair of flip flops to wear into the shower which I then threw out once I left.  I know hospitals clean but with how much blood I saw come out of me, I was freaked out about what could have been missed, especially if you have to share a room.

I brought cheap socks, also to be thrown out.  A couple sleep bras, copy of insurance cards/photo id.  Baby book.and comfy outfit to wear home.
